Spidey here with a not so serious but very irritating dilema.

Okay so my brother decided he wants to be a contractor for his mason friend and apparantly there is some drafting work involved. And seeing as I have a butload of art supplies and a drafting table ready for any kinda work that he wants to do he decided to go ahead and help himself. Now I don't know about you guys but I'm VERY particular about my work area. VERY PARTICULAR. I take any kinda artist belongings very personal.

So now at first when I seen him using all my tools he told me what he was doing and I went along with it. I figure I could stand to be a bit supportive as long as he gets back on his feet. But lately I've started to remember what a blatant disregard for other's personal property he has. Even when I'm half way through drawings he'll just toss them aside and work on his own things, adjust the table to how he wants and doesn't put it back. Takes my pens to work and loses them, Uses excessive amounts of inks and paper and just trashes most of his designs. And I'm just thinking this whole time "He
s really costing me some money and he isn't got to replace any of my stuff. So I've begun to second guess whether letting him using my personal supplies was a good idea. Now, everytime he sits down I get incredibly annoyed and really fight the urge to tell him to forget it and go buy his own shit, but at the same time I don't want to seem like I'm being selfish.

Should I tell him something or just hold out until he has the means to buy his own stuff?

you should tell him specifically what behaviours annoy you and why. if he doesn't understand or gets pissed off, tell him "you know what, on second thought F-U you dirtbag stop using my stuff and acting like you own it."

    it's always worked for me.

DUDE your not being selfish, you have already showed how giving you are. In this lifetime you got to know who to hug and who to choke!! Don’t let him bite the hand that’s feeds him. If he bites the front end of your hand then b*tch slap him with the back end! Put your foot down and tell him how the game goes. If he doesn’t like it then he can just roll out the door.

This is why the easiest and favorite word I have is NO. Yes always brings problems NO is so final. NO! that's the end of it NO! ends arguments and discussions as well as nonsense questions immediately.

I don't let people use my art supplies. Ever. It's funny, but most people don't realize how much this shit costs.

If he's using your supplies without regard, what makes you think he'll actually buy his own? Seems to me like the only way to get him to stop abusing your materials is to confront him about it.

Just tell him, look... This stuff costs alot of money, if I allow you to use it you've gotta follow these rules... and then lay down the rules.

    Otherwise, cut him off.
