Back to Dale Keown, it's so out of the norm to get the quintessential artist for a character that far along on a book, but damn if he wasn't the ultimate Hulk artist. Every issue had a shot that would just knock my socks off, and I would eagerly anticipate every month's shipment.

He's become so much better since his run on Hulk. I'd love to see what he'd do with that title now on a regular basis.

while that is great, I think his 6 years on the frankenstein graphic novel where his best, even if heavily influenced by Krenkel and Booth, I still am amazed at them.

That and John Buscema's run on Conan back in the day has really been bouncing around in my head alot lately. Just love the rendering style. Goes all the way back to Albrecht Durer for me. Time to bust out the rapidographs.

    Durer is my personal god

Fantastic stuff. Michael Kaluta came in to my store one day and we talked for some time and one of the things he said was that when sharing a studio with Wrightson during that time he would find beautiful pieces for the book in the trash; he was just not happy with them. Kaluta said he couldn't see a thing wrong.

But it was the Swamp Thing work that really affected me the most.

I came this close to buying an original Wrightson from him. It was a Swamp thing illo. But he wanted 700 bucks for it and I set a price that I will pay for any art at 300 bucks. It had me salivating though.
