    My first art post here.

Well this is my first post here at penciljack. This is a sketch I did today that I was going to trash but a friend said looked nice even though I didn't think so. But anyway I want you all to know anytime I post my work feel free to critique the hell out of it that way I can improve.

This is it my buddy and a teacher of mine said it looks like The Thing even though I wasn't going for that. its unfinished.

This a darkened version of the above picture.

whats going on with his right boot? that shape in front of his calf is that supposed to be a boot flap? it is very distracting.

EDIT: Just realized its part of the sign. you should thicken that line up so it looks like its in front of his leg, instead of part of it.

as for why it doesnt look like hes leaning on the rock, its because of the left leg. its too straight up. pussh it to the right more, so it looks like hes leaning forward. also, that left arm, make it bend some its too stiff as is. no one ever holds their arm like that.

I like the face. It looks somewhat pensive. It gives the the character a lot of... well, character. Aside from the aforementioned issue with the character not putting enough of his weight on the rock, you should also change the shape of the traffic sign. I don't believe there are any traffic signs that have that pentagon shape. There are triangles, squares, circles, and the ever present octogon, but I've never seen a pentagon. Changing that will probably also help the viewer identify that that is a part of the sign.

Also, the gauntlet of the arm that he's holding out in front of him needs work. The shape is off considering the angle it is supposedly at and based off of the gauntlet on his other arm the gauntlet should be much thicker than it currently appears to be.

    Welcome to PJ!!
It does look like a Thing redesign, and I must say, it's very nice.

Fair warning, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm going to keep doing it though.

I see wht you guys mean about the boot and such and I'll change it right away. And Prevaricator the sign is suppose to be a childern crossing sign they have five sides. When I was drawing this I was thinking of him seeing a car in a chase going pass the speed limit near a school and him stopping it or something. But thanks for the welcome and the critiques.

Yeah, I recognized the sign right off. Didn't know what kind it was, but I saw the sign.

You should expand on him as a character. That would be nice. Give him a name, add him in a scene or something.

Dude, it totally looks like the thing which isnt a bad thing Its a great concept. I think the theres a prob with the right leg which can be fixed if you raise the hip placement on it. the hip is higher on wherever the weight is distributed. It really solidifies the picture if you follow that rule. Keep on posting. Love to see new work.
