How do writers get involved in community stuff?

I'm a writer, and I'd like to be involved with the PJ Universe stuff but I don't understand where to start or what the rules are... It's, like, I missed the tutorial somewhere and don't know how to jump in.
Here's how you can get involved.
Writing Contests - Yes it's Writing Lab mostly, but at least here you can battle it out with your fellow wordsmiths.
PJU - When we've won the long battle against character designs, we'll start opening the project up to writers and artists to develop stories to tell based on the framework we've built. Make sure to read up on the PJU Info stuff.
Fusion Jams - If you've missed the current one, another will be along soon. It's hard to overlap them only because I don't want to keep track of more than 1 at a time, so keep your eyes peeled for the next project, we'll need a script for it.
All of these should be updated in the Bulletin Board section, as technically they are announcements.
Hope that helps.
my main piece of advice is, when it comes to something outside your area, ask people about it. I made the mistake of not asking what sort of dimensions and such I should use for the Forever Jam, and my portion looks like crap. I'm having to fix it now. Learn from my mistake and ask people for specifics.
alot of it is being in the right place at the right time.
You have to be the first to volunteer when something new is starting up, in many cases.

Can people volunteer new character ideas then, or is the whole thing locked up until then?PJU - When we've won the long battle against character designs, we'll start opening the project up to writers and artists to develop stories to tell based on the framework we've built. We're just doing designs for existing characters right now, but once it's opened up, you can submit anything you'd like.
Is there a time frame for that happening?
Days? Weeks? Months?
Not really. It's a volunteer based project organized and run by people who are really busy with work done by contributing members who are likewise busy.
Doing the math I'd say...(carry the 3)...2009? Honestly I don't know, just keep watching.
