I'm having trouble being able to draw an accurate head. I've come across 2 different methods and now i'm confused. Could someone tell me how they draw an ordinary head so i can see how other artists do it?
Does anyone know where to find any reference for head/face drawing?
Look in the mirror and study your face. Before you try to draw just observe how things line up. i.e. the corners of your lips line up with the center of your eye, the top of the ear lines up with your eyebrow and the bottom lines up with the tip of you nose. Look to see how your muscles work, notice how bones stick out different than the fatty or muscles of the face. How the skin is tight over certain parts and loose in others, etc... then try to draw what you see, most importantly shape, try to pick out shapes and forms and draw them as simple shapes. Books are great but i think people forget that they carry around an example of anatomy whever they go! Yourself. Just practice and observe and practice and observe.

I find myself typing this more and more ... but folks, PLEASE read the posting guidelines before posting. Topics like this are appropriate for the Tips & Tech forum (to which I'm moving this thread now). The Laboratory forums are for art posting only.

I don't have a password to this site... I wish I did for it's other stuff... BUT it does have a good free animated tutorial on profile measurements and such that helped me a lot a little while ago.

Click the 2nd and 3rd pictures on the right. Good stuff.
Drawing heads is all about spacing and proportion. There are many good books out there that can be beneficial. A nice, inexpensive one is Jack Hamm's DRAWING THE HEAD AND FIGURE. At around $12, you get a wealth of useful drawing information.
