    Sup for Lunch!

Come to think of it i've never posted Sups in any forums before. So here's a first for me. Inspired by a National Geographic show i saw last night. Those creepys with fangs looks like hungry baby birds...

I thought drawing big hands on Sups looks cool!

    Hope ya all dig!

This is very stylized, but that doesn't always translate into a good thing. In this case, I don't think it does. Your Superman seems more monstrous to me than he does human. His facial anatomy and body proportions are wacky, and that throws things off. Superman has a Bizzaro sort of look, and the grimace on his rather Frankenstein-esque, squared face and weird eye doesn't help either. The large hands and feet and flat fingers also contribute to he's freakish looks.

Superman should be handsome. He's sort of an idealized man--but I don't see much of that in your drawing, so I'm not relating to it, I'm afraid. However, if you reworked the head and fingers, this drawing might improve dramatically, IMO.

Style is great, but if it leads you too far astray from the subject matter at hand, it might be worth some investigation to see where you're getting off track. I'd say you should take a look at some artists who draw Superman well, or even take a gander at the late Christopher Reeve and George Reeves. They were the embodiment of the Man of Steel, looks-wise.

Your style is like a weird Bachalo/Silvestri hybrid. Very interesting, phenomenal in places, not so great in other places. The face seems to be the only real bad spot for me. And the humongous hands and feet.

I'd love to see more of your stuff, though.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it will pay for the search.

it's fun to hear all these comments... i can always draw a pretty boy Superman but somehow while i was drawing i had the urge to go over the border to see how the general public perceive a strange version. Obviously it's not working... oh well... back to the drawing board.

Anyway, it's been a good experience... thanks guys.

Quahkm: There's no need to be sorry about wanting to do something different--we all want to jazz things up--, but when it comes to iconic characters like Superman, you have to be aware that some artistic restaint is probably necessary. If you shy too far from the template, the character will cease to be recognizable as the icon everyone knows and loves, and that's no good. There's more room to push boundaries on other, less iconic and defined characters, IMO. However, if you take characters like Superman, Batman, Spider-man, Hulk, etc, and modify them too far in one direction or anther, you begin to lose the physical characteristics that make them the icons they are today.

I'm glad to see you posting, btw, and I do dig those creatures below Superman.

Yeah, Xadrian... i'm a sucker for cross-hatching. Sometimes if you don't do it right it can be messy... a tool i've been trying to improve for the past one year. Hopefully i will be able to master em soon. More practises... more practises...

Sorry, heh, New Year's coming... i'm very hyper... lol

You've got a point there, Loston. It would be very self-destructive if we can't get hired by going to overboard.

Hmm... unless i can get myself hired for drawing Lobo. That i can go really crazy.

Thanks again, man... for putting me to the right direction!
