Mignola’s next Hellboy story, Allie revealed, will be the two-part Hellboy: Makoma, or, “A Tale Told by a Mummy in the New York City Explorer's Club.” Mignola will only be writing the story, as it will be illustrated by the legendary Richard Corben.
“In many interviews and articles I've proclaimed my love for the old 1970's horror books out of San Francisco, Slow Death and Skull,” Allie said. “Well, Corben was the biggest star to emerge from all that. He predates those books, in fact, but it was those books which brought him to my attention. And as with many of the best things in my professional life, it's Mignola and Hellboy that have allowed me to work with him. The story these guys are teaming up for is a bizarre one. Similar in some respects to the Hellboy/Goon crossover, Mignola is drawing part of the two-issue story, with Corben doing the rest - Mike probably draws about one third of it, as well as the first issue cover. It begins with Hellboy, as the title says, in the New York City Explorer's Club, and from there, in Corben's capable hands; it goes across the plains of Africa, dealing with the sort of folklore that we only glimpsed in The Third Wish. It is a wild and bawdy story as only Corben could draw, and it comes at you this spring. It should be noted, this is not a sequel to The Island. This story takes places many years ago, around the time of Seed of Destruction.
For the sequel to The Island and Strange Places, you need to wait until summertime, when Mignola and Bermejo roll out Darkness Calls.”
