    Submission Etiquette

Okay, you have permission from the big time publishing company to send in your sample work. Later you sent a sample of your work and now you play the waiting game.

Question: Should you wait for a response regarding the work you've already sent in or is it okay to send in more while you wait?

What is NOT okay (at least in the eyes of publishers) is to submit the SAME project to multiple companies at the same time. But IMHO it's a GOOD idea to submit multiple project ideas if you have permission to do so. I know Marvel usually asks that you send EXACTLY ONE project and then wait, but other companies would rather see 100 pitches and then pick the 1 that they can actually use.

I personally will usually wait for whatever feedback is going to come by way of establishing a relationship with a given Editor, but then if things are okay, I'll send more stuff in batches. A company can recognize that you're a decent writer and still not want any of the specific ideas you threw at them.

I'd agree with Dan there, send in batches and wait..

in the interim, why not have a go at our writing contests or the PJ Exercise #1 where we are practising pitches/plots/beatsheets over the next few weeks..
(trust me to plug this haha)..

    Good luck!

I've had a different experience. I was told by a big time editor that if you have your foot in the gate, and have the attention of somebody at any of the big publishers, sending another 'new' pitch or sample would be entirely acceptable.

Again, part of writing is being pliable. If they send back harsh criticism on your first piece, mold it to what they want to see, and crank out another copy! However, if you send a new script (with permission to send to so and so's email) then by all means, send another. This will show inititive and desire to really write. It will set you apart from the next guy who sends in one script... and then waits forever.

My only other advice would be, don't over do it! Don't send a new script every week. Just show them that you're serious, then back off a bit. Editors are extremely busy, and can get cranky really quick. Trust me, I know!

If I had time I would. Looks like fun though.
