    Sample Scripts for Artists

All: Welcome to our hub of sample scripts. Here artists should be able to find a script they can use for their portfolio needs. They will be divided up into sections by page count. I'm hoping the format will be artist friendly, but I am open to suggestions, so feel free to PM me if you have one.

Artists: Feel free to browse through the scripts and use whichever you find interesting. If there is something you'd like to see, but cannot find, or have a specific request, please post the request in the Writing Lab forum instead of responding to this thread. Out of courtesy, the writers would appreciate being credited if possible and notified that you are using their script. In some cases, they may ask to see your results so they can see their scripts in a visual format. We ask that you comply if possible, as they won't be doing so to crit or analyze your work, although many would be happy to if you specifically ask for it.

Writers: I will be PMing you on occasion to see if I have permission to link your scripts here. However, if you have scripts that you are willing to share, post a response in this thread with a link and I will update it as necessary. If at all possible, please be aware of the requests that may come through the Writing Lab and accomodate them if you can. This flexibility will hopefully nurture an environment where we can see more of the scripts represented visually. Please do not solicit specific Artists to draw your sample script, as a link here is already letting them know you'd like them to draw it. If your script does get picked and you are notified, please do not crit their work unless they specifically ask for it. Above all else - keep writing!

And if there are ANY questions regarding this, feel free to PM me. I'll do my best to answer everyone.

Here's a three page Batman story that I just put together. Artist feel free to draw and use for portfolios or whatnot. Fellow scribes feel to free to critique and let me know whatcha think.
    “Harvey’s Question”

    Page One
    Art:
Page is a five panel page with one wide panel at the top and four squares beneath that. Panel one shows Batman chasing Two-Face across a building rooftop at night. Panel two shows Two-Face taking a couple of quick shots at Batman with his pistol. Panel three shows Batman dodging out of the way of the gunfire and throwing a Bata rang. Panel four shows a shot of Two-Face getting his gun knocked out of his hand. Panel five shows Two-Face jumping off the edge of the building.

    Dialogue:

    Panel One
Two-Face: You’ll never catch me if you don’t double your pace, old friend.

Batman: Stop Harvey, before more people get hurt.

    Panel Two
    Two-Face: I think it’s a little late for that, don’t you?

    Panel Three
Batman: Harvey, we can get you help.

    Panel Five
Two-Face: Nothing can help me now Bats. It’s time I accept fate. Time to flip the coin and get the verdict

    Page Two
    Art:
Page is a splash page with three insert panels running down the left side of the page. The splash page shows Batman diving off the edge of the building after Two-Face with Two-Face falling below him. Panel one shows Batman catching Two-Face in mid air. Panel two shows Batman holding Two-Face, still falling, and shooting his grappling gun into the air. Panel three shows Batman and Two-Face swinging onto another rooftop.

    Dialogue:

    Splash Page
Batman: (Capt.) Harvey does exactly what I count on. He’s cornered so he dives off the building.

    Panel One
Batman: (Capt.) And within seconds my body does what it’s been trained to do.

    Panel Two
Batman: (Capt.) By reflex my muscles spring into action performing perfectly.

    Panel Three
Batman: (Capt.) Just like always I swing us onto another building’s roof and onto safety.

    Page Three

    Art:
Page is a splash page showing Two-Face kneeling in front of Batman with his head in his hands. Batman is standing in front of Two-Face as his cape is flowing in the wind.

    Dialogue:

    Splash Page
Batman: (Capt.) Then he asks me a question I’m not ready for and for which I have no answer.

Harvey: Why won’t you just let me die!!!

    Spiderman Loves Mary Jane 4pgr

Okay folks, here you are... here are 2 sample scripts for artists dealing with SPIDERMAN. I based it off the Spiderman loves Maryjane comic that's stolen my heart as of late. All i ask is let me know if you use it, cuz i'd love to see it! The first is 4 pgs and has an even balance of emotion and action. The second is 3pgs and more action driven. Enjoy!

FYI: the SLM comic takes place long before MJ looked at Peter as anything other than the physics geek tutor, knew he was spiderman or anything of that nature. Although she IS obsessed with spiderman and has a crush on him. They are TEENAGERS in this.

    Protection
    Spiderman property of Marvel
    Story by Ielle Palmer 2006

    PAGE ONE, Five Panels

Panel One: CU of fingers dialing on a cellphone

Panel Two: Fullshot of teenaged MJ walking down a flight of stairs leading into the subway. In the background we can see a couple walking up the stairs, heading for the surface. Other than that, she is alone and it’s night.

MJ: Mom? Uh, why aren’t you home? Ok, well I’m probably just talking to myself, but I had to stay late to help with inventory. I’m catching the last train out right now, so I should be home in about a half hour…

Panel Three: CU of MJ nervously waiting for the train, being careful not to stand anywhere near the edge. She’s watching a bum who is squatting down on the platform near the mouth of the subway tunnel, a bit worried by his behavior.

MJ:…sure would be nice if you met me at the station with the car. Hope everything’s-

    Answering Machine: (over phone) BEEEP!

Panel Four: MS of MJ is closing her cellphone and pulling her coat tighter with the other hand. She is looking down at her feet, depressed. The bum is shuffling off up the stairs. From the tunnel, odd noises begin to erupt.

    MJ: *sigh* Love you.

    Sound: SCREECH, SCREECH

Panel Five: Low angle Medium LS of MJ stepping closer to the edge of the platform. Curiousity has taken hold.

    MJ: …?

    PAGE TWO, Six panels

Panel One: WA LS of the Green Goblin’s flying machine completely out of control, bumping into the opposite wall of the platform. GG is waving one arm up, trying to shake off Spiderman who is clinging onto GG’s neck for dear life. Spidey’s legs are flailing up behind them. MS of MJ watching in the foreground, her back is to us but we can tell from her body language that while she’s terrified, she’s exhilarated as well.

    Spidey: Whooooooooa!

Spidey: (linked) You know, that’s gonna wreak havoc on the resale.

    MJ: (burst) Ohmagawd! Spiderman?

Panel Two: CU of Spiderman turning his head, noticing her.

    SPIDERMAN: Mary Jane?

Panel Three: Medium LS of Spiderman falling backwards towards track as GG spins his flying machine up and off to the left towards the platform. MJ is ducking, although he’s not close to her.

Panel Four: MS of Spiderman hitting the subway tracks hard.

Panel Five: LS of GG riding his machine off up the stairway to the surface. CU of MJ’s in the foreground. She’s lying on the platform, terrified. She’s peaking back over her shoulder at GG escaping.

Spidey (OP): (weakly) Anyone get his plate number?

Panel Six: Tight MS of Spidey slowly getting up. He looks down the tunnel only to see the lights of oncoming subway train.

Spidey: Doesn’t feel like anything is…

    Spidey: (link) …broken?

    Spidey: (link) aw, crap.

    PAGE THREE, Four panels

Panel One: Medium LS of Spidey jumping backwards up onto the platform beside MJ (who is standing now).

Panel Two: Loose CU of Spidey nearly falling off the edge, his nose is inches from the subway train that’s barreling by. But MJ’s hand is firmly holding him by the shoulder, pulling him back. She looks surprised to be saving him, as much as he appears surprised that he didn’t quite nail his landing.

Panel Three: CU of Spidey standing on the edge of the platform, He is still facing the tracks, but his head is turned to look at her. MJ is staring at him dreamily, a cheesy grin has found its way across her face.

    Spidey: Uh… thanks.

MJ: No problem, but he got away.

Spidey: Yeah, saw that. It’s a little late for you to be out alone, isn’t it?

MJ: Uh, who just saved whom?

Spidey: whh…I-I need to go get him.

Panel Four: LS Spidey is slinging his way up the stairs to the surface. Loose CU of MJ inside the subway watching him through the glass. She is completely under his spell. She looks like a lovesick kitten. That same stupid grin is still plastered across her face.

    Page Four, Three Panels

Panel One: Ext. Subway station - Queens. LS of MJ standing on the semi-shoveled sidewalk outside the subway exit, looking around depressed. Her mother has not come for her.

Panel Two: Tight MS of MJ looking back to see Peter approaching her.

    Peter: MJ?

MJ: Peter? What are you doing here?

Peter: Late tutoring session. Want to walk back together? I mean it’s late and-

Panel Three: LS of MJ and Peter as they head down the street. She teasingly bumps him with her shoulder. Her arm is already linked around his. She grins micheviously at him, as he reddens and stares at his feet.

    MJ: Sure Peter…

    MJ (link): I’ll protect ya.

    Devil’s Advocate

    Spiderman property of Marvel
    Story by Ielle Palmer 2006

    PAGE ONE, Six Panels

Panel One: Evening - Fullshot of Spiderman smashing into a park water fountain, kicking up a huge spray every which way. Various people nearby are looking up alarmed.

    CAPTION: “He’s not a menace!”

    SPIDEY: Oofff!

Panel Two: Medium LS of DOC OC using one of his mechanical arms to lift Spidey up by the jaw and shake him.

    CAPTION: “Liz… he’s just misunderstood.”

CAPTION 2: “Ugh, here we go. Harry, make her stop.”

Panel Three: LS of Doc tossing Spidey away towards some benches.

CAPTION: “Oh no, I’m not getting involved, this is between you two.”

Panel Four: CU of Spidey’s thrusting his hands outward, his webs spring outward.

    CAPTION: “He’s a freak MJ…”

Panel Five: WA of Spidey. He has sling shoot himself around a lamp-post and is heading back at DOC OC (MS of DOC in the foreground, ready to fight) his foot outstretched so that it’ll be the first thing to hit DOC.

CAPTION: “…They say he’s the reason all these other nutjobs are popping up all over town…”

Panel Six: CU of Spidey’s foot connecting with Doc’s jaw, smashing his face sideways.

CAPTION: “...for godsake, the man’s killed people!”

    PAGE TWO, Five Panels

Panel One: LS of Spidey flying off away from the scene as cops are arriving. Doc OC is in the foreground, tied up in webbing and unconscious.

CAPTION: “Oh, that stupid Daily Bugle. It gets everything wrong. Liz, if only you knew him like I do.”

Panel Two: LS of Spidey leaning on the billboard letters atop of the awning of an old second run movieplex. MS of MJ, Flash, Harry and Liz laughing & rough housing while leaving from a late night film. They seem so happy having a normal teenage life. Meanwhile Spidey’s posture shows how he wishes that he could be down there with them.

CAPTION: Oh-my-god! You don’t know him MJ! You’ve met him twice. And if I remember correctly, he didn’t stick around very long either time.”

Panel Three: CU of Spidey ducking as a laser blast misses him and smashes into the bricks behind him. His spidey-senses have been tripped, but nearly too late thanks to the MJ distraction.

CAPTION: “What, you’ve never made a snap judgment about someone?”

Panel Four: Medium LS of Spidey shooting a web up into the air and jumping up off the movieplex’s awning towards Green Goblin who is attacking him.

CAPTION: “…I’ve seen what he can do. If anything, he goes out of his way not to hurt anyone. Even the nutjobs you're talking about.”

Panel Five: Extreme LS of Spidey swinging through NYC chasing after Green Goblin who is speeding off on his flying machine.

CAPTION: “He’s never asked for anything in exchange. He goes out there and tries to make a difference and all you can do is sit here complain. You’re such a brat!”

    GG: Hee hee hee hee!!

Spidey: (just the standard angry scribble cloud, no actual dialogue)

    PAGE THREE, Six Panels

Panel One: MS of Spidey on a rooftop taking a break, holding a soda, his mask is pushed up over his nose. His shoulders are sagging from exhaustion, his head hanging a bit.

CAPTION: “…We should be begging his forgiveness and throwing him tinker-tape parades.”

    CAPTION 2: “…Please Harry, she’s killing me.”

    Woman (O.P): Help!

    Spidey: *sigh*

Panel Two: Ext. Queens – We’re back in Peter’s semi-nice neighborhood. LS of Spidey hanging upside down from a tree, passing a cat back to some eager old woman. Dawn is starting to break.

CAPTION: “Jesus MJ, Liz’s right. You make him out to be a saint.”

Panel Three: High Angle MS of teenaged Liz, MJ and Harry sitting around a table in the library talking. Annoyed, Liz is throwing up her hands at Harry (who is leaning away from her, since she looks as though she could easily bring her arms down and smack him in the face). Across from them, MJ has turned her attention to a nearby table, where PETER is sitting in the background, passed out into one of his books.

Liz: Do you see? Do you see what I deal with every fricken day? Spiderman this, Spiderman that. It’s not healthy!

    MJ: Peter?

Panel Four: MS of Mary Jane now leaning on Peter’s table looking down at him, concerned. Peter is trying to wipe the drool away and not look like a retard in front of her. He’s completely embarrassed that she found him like that. In the background we can still see Liz flipping out on Harry, who still looks concerned for his own safety.

PETER: Oh, uh sorry… Hi MJ.

MJ: Don’t take this the wrong way Peter, but you look horrible.

    PETER: Thanks?

MJ: If you want, we could reschedule our tutoring thing tonight-

Panel Five: MS of MJ sitting across from Peter smiling away. She’s looking at his books to see what he’s reading. He on the other hand can’t take his eyes off her.

PETER: No!... I-I mean, you’re not getting out of algebra that easy.

MJ: Honestly Peter Parker, if I didn’t know any better I’d say you were out living it up last night. Silly, huh?

Panel Six: CU of Peter, utterly exhausted and sheepishly looking off to the side.

    Peter: Yeah, silly.

If any of you artistic types are so inclined, this is one of my Writing Contest entries. Give it a whack.

    It's a bird.

Here's a new 3-pager for the artistic ones. I was inspired right after watching the new Superman flick. By the way all that I ask of anyone who uses my stuff to practice or for your portfolio or whatever is to show me your work. I really like seeing my words brought to life in pictures.

    "Pa's Advice"
    Page One:

    Art:
Page is a four panel page with one tall panel running the length of the left side of the page top to bottom and three squares beside it on the right side of the page. Panel one shows Superman flying up from the skyline of Metropolis. Panel two shows a close-up of Superman's head with a paricular focus on his ear. Panel three shows Superman speeding past a large crowd of people on a street corner. Panel four shows a little boy in the front of the crowd wearing a Superman t-shirt and holding a hotdog looking toward the direction Supes was flying in.

    Dialogue:
    Panel One:
Superman: (Caption) I've been living on this planet for quite some time now.

    Panel Two:
Superman: (Caption) I've seen so many things and accomplished so much with the powers that I have.

    Panel Three:
Superman: (Caption) I'm a symbol of hope and optimism to people the world over, most of whom I will never meet.

    Panel Four:
Superman: (Caption) There are even some who see me as a god.

    Page Two

    Art:
Page is a six panel page. Panel one shows a subway train barreling along it's track. Panel two shows Superman flying vertically in between two skyscrapers. Panel three shows a girl in leg braces lying across the tracks of the subway, as horrified people try to get to her. Panel four shows Superman flying straight up, he's in the sky above the cloud line, and is under the sun. Panel five shows the girl in the tracks again this time she's in the foreground and the train is in the background. Panel six shows a shot of Superman flying toward the street which is directly beneath him.

    Dialogue:

    Panel One:
Superman: (Caption) When I think about those whome I save, I think of something Pa once said to me on the farm.

    Panel Two:
Superman: (Caption) He would say "Clark, people are like seeds."

    Panel Three:
Superman: (Caption) "They all start off the same. They all come into this world with as good a chance as any of making it."

    Panel Four:
Superman: (Caption) "Somewhere along the way, though, some are just going to be lost to wind or rain or maybe even drought."

    Panel Five:
Superman: (Caption) "It's just that, well son, I just want you to remember; you can't save every seed."

    Panel Six:
Superman: (Caption) Every time I hear someone's cry for help, I think about those words.

    Page Three

    Art:
Page is a splash page showing the same girl in leg braces lying across the tracks of the subway now she's looking up. Superman is now standing in between her and the train that was coming her way It's obvious that he stopped the train from hitting her by the big freaking dent that's now in the front of the engine.

    Dialogue:
    Splash Page:
Superman: (Caption) I think about my father's words and I wonder for every person I do save how many hundreds or thousands of others I couldn't save.

Here's one that I wrote for Deth, and thought I would also contribute to others.

    “One Last One Night Stand”
    By Ben Holman

    Page One
Page is a splash page with two insert panels at the bottom of the page.

    Splash Page
Panel shows John Constantine and Zatanna standing in an English pub. Zatanna is standing in a ready fighting stance with her wand and one end of the wand is smoking. John is standing beside her holding a half full pint of dark beer, looking casual, like there’s not really much going on. On the right and left of the page are the backs of some random patrons who are surrounding John and Zatanna. Behind the bar is the bartender he looks demonically possessed and has a menacing grin on his face.

John Constantine: What are second rate demonic bottom feeders such as yourselves doing in a high class dump like this?

Zatanna: They’re Soul walkers. They followed me here.

John: I know what they are. What do they want with you?

    Panel One
Panel shows Zatanna in a medium shot. She is standing with her wand held in front of her like a sword. Her top hat is tipped slightly forward.

Zatanna: It’s actually a long story and we don’t have time. Just give me a hand, and I’ll buy you a pint.

    Panel Two
Panel shows John in a medium shot. He’s lighting a new cigarette and has a smart ass grin on his face.

John: Now there’s a good girl. Appeal to my base desires.

    Page Two
Page is a nine panel page.

    Panel One
Panel shows John still standing in the same spot still smoking. It doesn’t appear that his demeanor has changed much. He’s still holding onto his beer.

John: So refresh my memory on these wankers again. It’s been a while since my last run in with one.

    Panel Two
Panel shows Zatanna spraying a conical blast of ice and snow at one of the demonically possessed pub patrons.

Zatanna: They’re basically your average possession daemon…

    Panel Three
Panel shows John now lowering his pint as though he’s just finished taking a drink.

John: So then just “Exorcise” the demon. And bingo, nasty buggers gone, the possessed sod’s back to normal, and all’s well.

    Panel Four
Panel shows Zatanna now slamming her wand into the side of a possessed patron’s head.

Zatanna: It’s not that simple. They’re summoned and there’s a secret word or phrase that undoes the possession.

    Panel Five
Panel shows John still standing watching Zatanna fight off the possessed patrons.

John: And I suppose only the necromancer knows the word.

    Zatanna: You guessed it.

    Panel Six
Panel shows John blowing smoke right into the face of the bartender.

John: You don’t suppose it’s something as simple as **** off do you?

    Panel Seven
Panel shows the bartender in a close up shot. Now he looks strikingly different. It should be obvious that he’s no longer possessed.

    Panel Eight
Panel shows John now standing still smoking but he’s now looking behind the bar at the bartender lying on the ground behind the bar.

John: Well would you look at that. I didn’t expect that to work actually.

    Panel Nine
Panel show John in close up. He’s blowing smoke out of his nose.

John: Hey wankers, why don’t you all just **** off!?!
    Page Three
Page is a five panel page. Panel size and layout is up to the artist.

    Panel One
Panel shows Zatanna walking up to where John is standing. She has to step over all of the patrons, since they are now lying unconscious on the floor of the pub.

John: Well, wasn’t that exciting. So what brings you to my town? And who were your traveling mates?

    Panel Two
Panel shows Zatanna in a close up shot.

Zatanna: Technically John we’re not in London. As a matter of fact we’re not even on earth, at least not the one you know.

    Panel Three
Panel shows both John and Zatanna now standing face to face.

John: What exactly are you talking about? Where the hell are we?

    Panel Four
Panel shows Zatanna again in a close up shot.

Zatanna: What I’m talking about is the two of us, John. We can’t keep meeting up like this.

    Panel Five
Panel shows John again in a close up shot.

John: Don’t tell me you’ve found someone. I thought we were just friends anyway.

    Page Four
Page is a six panel page.

    Panel One
Panel shows Zatanna from over John’s shoulder.

Zatanna: No John, this is not about the definition of our relationship. It’s more cosmic than that.

    Panel Two
Panel shows John and Zatanna again in a face to face shot.

Zatanna: John do you remember about twenty years ago when the multi-verse was destroyed.

    John: How could I forget?

    Panel Three
Panel shows Zatanna again over John’s shoulder but now she has her back turned to him.

Zatanna: Well ever since than you and I have lived in two different realities altogether.

    Panel Four
Panel shows Zatanna in a close up shot.

Zatanna: Every time we’ve been together since I’ve created a pocket dimension for us and our surroundings.

    Panel Five
Panel shows Zatanna from John’s POV, and we’re still seeing her back. She is standing with her shoulders slumped, and looks tired.

Zatanna: I’ve drained a little bit of energy off of my soul to do this every time we’ve been together.

    Panel Six
Panel shows Zatanna and John again in a face to face shot. Zatanna has her wand positioned above John’s head.

Zatanna: I love you John, but we can’t keep doing this. Good bye and be safe.

    Page Five
Page is a splash page with a wide panel at the top of the page.

    Wide Panel
Panel shows an extreme close up shot of Zatanna’s eyes.

Zatanna: Nwot nodnol ot kcab og, evol ym, yob ynnhoj.

    Splash Page
The splash page is a shot of John standing in the same pub, but now it is filled with perfectly normal Londoners just our for a few drinks. John is probably the strangest looking person in the pub since he is disheveled and slightly confused looking. He is however holding a full pint.

John: Before I can raise any protest or ask any more questions she starts that backward speak casting on me, and I’m back in my London, I guess. That has to be the most confusing meeting we’ve ever had. Hell I still don’t really know what it was all about, but I know I won’t see her again. Oh well, at least she didn’t forget my pint. I might as well get started on it.
