    Exclamation More robutt headlines?!

Not long now until we're crushed under their iron feets!

Or, not much longer before this company teams up with the makers of Real Doll. . .

It can also identify bags shoppers are carrying and pass the information along to stores for marketing purposes
I think for this article this is the most pertinent and soon to be relevant to america

There was a feature on NHK news a couple weeks about this. The 'no need for cashiers' store is soon to be a reality- japan is implementing stores where you just walk in grab what you want and walk out and the amount is just detracted from your bank account.....
although that poses certain questions which I guess will be addressed whenever the technology reaches america

a tangent to this story is the new cell phone that works as a debit card.

why dont I live in japan?

Yeah, I can see this taking off over here after reading several articles in Time and the local paper on commercial companies that do shopper profiling in retail establishments via video survellaince.

It's pretty crazy, but allegedly we're caught on camera somewhere around 50% of the time we're in public these day; if not more.

I saw a quick piece on this on International Channel. Cell phones can also be used for public lockers and secured doors. You basically dial the lock and voila! Your phone unlocks it. They also showed this experimental vehicle that was actually being driven by a cell phone. They also showed people booking flights using a unique barcode image that showed up on the phone's digital display where, when scanned under a special booth, would print out your boarding pass automatically. I guess in the future, phones will be just as necessary to have on you as your wallet for identification.

Also, I don't know if we're a test market or something, but we've had stores here already that let you just grab what you want and you just go to a lane and scan your stuff and pay either with a card or feeding in dollar bills. They dedicate the last two checkout lanes just for this. We have at least three groceries and the local Home Depot already with this. But I usually feel bad and just go to the regular checkout lanes with cashiers. You know, to keep them employed. Plus, I just feel generally weird doing it without a cashier. I have no problems with vending machines, yet I feel like I'm doing something wrong checking out at a cashier-less lane.

    No one loves you.
They're just pretending to be nice.
But they talk bad about you when you leave the room.

The grocery store I go to got these about a month ago. So far I prefer the self-checkout lanes, because usually they are open and I don't have to stand in line. Most people just avoid them and just wait in line rather than take the 37 seconds to figure out how to use it. And it's not like the cashiers are friendlier than the computer screen at the self-checkout. It's a little cumbersome if you've got a lot of produce though, but I'll probably get faster as I get used to it. I figure in about two or three months it'll be just like any other lane for most people.

It really makes no difference to me. Whichever is quicker.

The entire point of the anorexic runway model is that they are walking maniquins to show off the clothing. They don't matter. That particular show had models with ugly faces.

Once real robots can do it, they're out of a profession - not that modeling is typically a long career to begin with.

I definitely feel theres going to be a 'robot revolution' where people are just going to get fed up and start destroying these things left and right

If people are upset about outsourcing and shipping jobs overseas, boy are they going to be Pissed when they go in for a job interview and a robot walks out of the room ahead of them

    Exclamation

I don't know about a revolution. At least, a violent one.

You would have to take away America's access to cable tv, the internet, luxury vehicles, and McDonalds first.

Even at the consumer level, we're incapable of a social revolt. Don't like outsourcing? Stop buying PC's that outsource their support. Don't like Wal-Mart's business practices? For the love of god stop shopping there.

    America has no impulse control.

The impetus would have to be something completely retarded. That's about all I can say without getting into the political aspect of a revolution.
