    It's about damn time...

I don't think these will ever be as common as the automobile, but I could see them being used to some degree.

    And dammit, it's about time!!

    The Flying Car

Gets better mileage than a Hummer!

It's worth noting that the vehicle is almost entirely computer-controlled, allowing the operator only two controls: direction and speed, both of which are only inputs to the computer, rather than fly-by-wire, so the computer can prevent the operator from making stupid maneuvers. In addition they've got a lot of redundant safety features, not the least of which is dual parachutes that carry the entire vehicle down (similar systems have been used recently in small airplanes and have actually saved lives).

What I don't see being addressed are things like air-traffic corridors and allowed flight zones... being a pilot is more than just knowing how to fly, it's also knowing where you can and can't fly and the reasons why. I mean, I don't think I'd be super comfortable with these things flying around over my house...

That thing and image is a couple o years old isn't it?
No one has any video of it actually working do they?
I won't believe it until they start hitting show room floors.

There's video on the site. I think I've seen the previous design, but not this most recent one.

Then again, Moller has been trying to develop a practical Flying Car since the 70's.

I always thought jetpacks were infinitely cooler than flying cars.
This looks like the closest thing to one so far.

OT but this pisses me off more than people with Hummers, are these people (I've seen) who have these little motorcycle things (hell I even saw a little kid on one). All the time they go by I just want to bash their heads in for misusing earth's resources for a bloody gimmick. GAHHHH!!!

But yeah flying car is neat, though only for a while as there will be no traffic.

It could be argued that your use of paper for drawing is misusing earth's resources for a bloody gimmick.

That's why I'm learning to use paperless software... it's cheaper in the long run, too.
