New guy, new work, take a look

    Hi
This is my first post here, and the fact that I actually decided to post here says something about the quality of the work i'm seeing. I hope that some of you will take a look at the two sequential pieces i've got up on my site. The link below will take you straight to the "comic gallery" page of my site. Both comics are in pdf format so you'll need Acrobat Reader. Hope to hear from at least a couple of you.

    Thanks

I hope the fact that they're both already lettered isn't breaking the protocol of this section of the board. If so, just give me the heads up, and sorry in advance.

Well, it's not that they're lettered that's a problem, it's that you must provide direct links to the artwork, not to an index page (you're probably going to get more comments, etc. if you can post images instead of pdf files). There are a couple of other requirements, too, but you can check those out in the forum guidelines at the top of the Storytelling Lab.

So, sorry to have to do it, but this thread has to go over to the Bulletin Board. We'd love to see your work, though, so when you can give us some direct links to the work, please repost them.

Screw it, could you just delete this thread please? Thanks.

Wow, nice response. But no, we don't make it a habit of deleting threads for this reason, sorry.

    What reason?

Not to be brash or anything, but just curious.

Because it's not necessary. Just because it's moved to a different forum doesn't mean the thread shouldn't exist. The thread still has a purpose.

    Have some faith

I like the crisis of faith feel but would like some more shades. like the road is just one color. Just havi the jpeg would be better so we can look right at your work. Glad you posted. I think you saying "screw it" wasn't really in anger just frustration but hey people will look at your stuff anyway. But man I'm still waiting for the other file to download....

oh the first page is blank.

    Funny story.

Partly because, as Methane said, the thread is still useful. Folks can find Jmil's work by visiting the link. And partly because we make every attempt to be as open, transparent and public as possible. Plus, the policy is generally this - if you post it, it's public. Deleting threads on the whims of the original posters has opened doors on strange behavior in the past that I don't want to open again.

Good call. I was just gonna post again after I'd formatted the thing differently, instead of being shuffeled into (what seemed like) the dark back corner of the message board, but if people are still finding it, whatever it doesn't matter to me.

I was trying to keep the grayscaling, for the most part, pretty graphic. I was trying to limit it to about 5 tones, not including black and white. There are some subtle textural things going on in the road and desert that may be hard to pick up on, but I'm still experimenting with the balance of those things. Hopefully as the story progresses everything going on in the art will find it's groove too.

I understand. I'll work on getting those up.

Eh, sorry. When I conceived putting actual comic stories on the web, I thought PDFs would be a pretty accessible way for people to veiw them. I guess it wasn't as good an idea as i thought. And the first page shouldn't be blank. Did it come through eventually?
