If it's the series I think it is (need to see some imagery to be sure), then it's kind of a toss-up... it could be cool, if they ditched the 70's fashions.
I looked it up on Google, and the art was really good. I'd check it out if I ever saw the TPB. HOWEVER! I think whatever made this so controversial 30 years ago isn't going to mean dick in 2004. In a world where Will Smith and Denzel Washington make 20 million bucks a movie, no one is going to be wary of a black guy with a gun in their comics.
