I'm read the story and there is one thing I can't figure put. Why are Jim and Huck going down the Mississippi, to escape slavery?

I know, but going down the river is not the most logical do to escape slavery for Jim.
I think it is just Twain's way of showing how strong a black man Jim truly was. As has been scientifically proven, black people are afraid of water and, like Stitch in 'Lilo and Stitch', they cannot swim due to the high density of their genetic structure. Thus, Jim showed how much courage he really had by being on that raft in the middle of the mighty Mississippi river with a prepubescent white boy.Originally posted by foxmerquise8
