That being Internet Relay Chat
Anyone use this before? Apparently it's the only way to get some of the more rare manga out there, short of picking your ass up and going to Nippon.

dude, youre like damn near 10 years late.
I been doin IRC since like 95, and a few years ago with the implementation of file swapping it has grown leaps and bounds beyond simple real time chat.
met a LOT of cool peoples that way (including the Mrs.)

irc is probably the best, in my opinion, p2p out there. it's awesome because there are a ton of different servers you can connect to and download all kinds of shit you normally couldn't find anywhere else, anything from game ISOs to mp3s to tv episodes that people have ripped. you also get to meet a lot of... interesting, to say the least, people. IRC tends to separate the men from the boys, so to speak. Most of the time you don't have to worry about some AOL baby. From my own experience, most of the people on IRC are utterly, and totally geeks; but they're great if you ever need tech support. XD
definately give it a shot. the main, and most well known server, is irc.dal.net *is that even around any more?* with literally HUNDREDS of different channels to choose from.
I wander around IRC here and there. As for file sharing I never was much for it as I usually got caught in huge queues, I get anything I usually want in newsgroups anyhow, cept for anime and stuff but I'm sure if I requested it'd be uploaded.
we used mIRC at work for just a chat room, but some of us piggybacked the server to move mp3's.
Really easy to set up and use.
Trillian also has IRC built in.
I know IRC is old news, but the last time I tried to mess with MIRC I was derailed when I discovered that my firewall (which is part and parcel of the router that connect mine and my girlfriend's computers to the same modem) does not care for me to do these things. I'll need to bypass it somehow, which is getting into wild territory for me.
But now I have a new OS and half new hardware (though I must replace my RAM, which is old and quite likely falling apart, if the number of PFN and similar errors that I've had over the past months are any indicator... just waiting for payday) and there are things I want which people are insisting I should learn how to get for myself, so...
I get most of my tokusatsus episodes over mIRC and BT all together...mIRC is cool...
i could never find any channels. not to turn this thing into a tech thread, but how do i get to a listing?

No, no, turn it into a tech thing! By all means! I can move the thread to Tips and Tech if it bothers anyone.
For instance, I have yet to actually connect to a server. I don't know why, and I'm still trying to figure it out. mIRC just runs along, trying to connect, and constantly being kicked back off or timing out.
