Thread: The Ultimate Stand Up List

    The Ultimate Stand Up List

Much like the Ultimate Movie List (which is still in progress and I'll show you when it's done), I'm going to make an Ultimate Stand Up Comedian List, because I feel as though I'm missing out on some great comedians, and you really should know this stuff.

I noticed that comedy central has 100 best comedians show, but I missed half of it, and I don't know if I can sit there and take notes anyway.

IMO this list would be a lot shorter than the ultimate movie list, and obviously it's very opinionated. Everyone has different taste for comedy.

But I just want to get some advice on what stand up I might be able to rent because I love a good laugh, but when stand up is bad it makes me wanna cry because you just feel bad for the person on stage

From the top of my head, I'm starting with:
Richard Priar (as already nominated #1)
    Denis Leary
    Robin Williams(especially if your intoxicated)
    George Carlon (the comedian's comedian)
Bill Cosby ( good stand up in his day)
    Eddy Murphy
    Johny Carson
    Dave Letterman

A lot of great stand ups get forgotten because they turn into movie stars, like Eddy Murphy, and then people forget they were even stand ups in the first place, but I remember being a kid and that all some people new Ed Murphy for was "Raw" for example...it's funny.

There are a bunch of 'redneck' comedians who I think are funny, but can't remember their names right now...I would add them to my previous list too. I'm not a redneck by any means, but those guys are talented.

so, add to the list if you can please...

Why don't you just go off the other list and buy some CDs from the guys you've never heard before?

If you're referring to "(richard pryor)best comedian of all time" thread, then I'm glad you asked....that thread, aside from wingfan's post, only has comments about richard pryor and/or who you think deserves #1.

and even wingfan's post is just one persons list, I'm sure there's something missing.

what I'm looking for is an extensive list of good stand up comedians. It's no big deal, but I figured it would take much time for people to add a couple to the list...

my post was Comedy's Central ranking, I just took it off their website. I'm sure it was compiled by more than one person.

You know what? I just got back from BB and you can't even find any ****in' stand up on the shelves!!!!

    What's alternative? anyone know?

come to think of it, it's no wonder I don't rent more stand up...they never have it up...it's pretty much gone out of style around here.

Obviously I could find the great vintage stuff online...but then we're talkin' $10-$20 /dvd. Anyone know a super-cheap DVD outlet?

btw: What about the guy who was a comedian at first, but kind of started to be serious. He said something like: "People pay to hear me talk, I never claimed to be a comedian" and sometimes he would get serious on stage and stuff...was that Lenny Bruce? Whoever it was, I heard he was worth listening to.

    obviously:

    Chappelle
    John Stewart

    ...duh.
But they showed sum stand up of Stewart in his hayday, and the dude seriously is good. Chappelle is young, "his peeking and he'll peek again" like they said on the comedy central 100 best show, and he cracks me up too.
