    comic shop

A comic shop in Jersey I often go to, MC Comics , has just about every comic you could imagine up on the shelf. It dawned on me one day that comics (like every other product) don't sell out completely..there are lots of extras at the end of the month. So I ask the guy there what they do with all of the extra comics they have, and he said that they keep them in storage...they have over a million comics in storage!!!!!
    Talk about a sweet collection.
But that still leaves a lot of questions in my mind.

    Questions for shop owners:

Is it tough running a shop?

Do you have future plans for these back issues?

Do you think you'll ever make your money back on the extra comics?

    Does trading actually help?

Is the online market killing you?

but you don't have to be a shop owner to answer, anyone who knows can pitch in.

well the location of the shop, internet, and people who subscribe to comics directly from the comic book companies have their hand in that as well.

For example if people need a car to get to the shop, you have just cut off a majority of your possible customers who do not have cars! Unless public transportation is availible near the store.

It could also be the fact that most people go into the comic store and read the entire comic while they are there so buying the comic really isnt an option anymore!

It seems the only way for them to increase their buisness is to start selling things besides the usual comics, like ( hold those rotten tomatoes people!) yugi ho , dragonball z, or ( I can't believe I am about to say this!) pokemon merchandise.

    Well just a few thoughts

Musical instruments... I've known a couple of comic shops that sell comics and musical instruments. They're not as geeky as cards, and they still tend to go together...

Tell ya what, though, I'll try and remember to ask my shop owner these questions, and see what he says.

Or they can allow comic book creators who self publish to sell their books there or allow artists to draw comics on the premises to help draw attention to the store.

    just some more suggestions

boy am I glad I asked! you guys are in 50/50 if I ever start up my own biz!!!

I know that you can't open business based on selling just what you like (old business wisdom), but that doesn't mean you have to sell stuff you don't like (like dragon ball z ).

I really like the musical instrument idea, that snow-balls a bunch of great ideas. And, of course, I'm sure if anyone here were to start a shop they would include a bunch of original art and their own self published comic hehe...

I appreciate you asking if you get the chance inkthinker!!!
