    i'd like to read all these at some point, but i'm pressed for time (yeah, spending that on PJ, makes sense :P )

    my one decision would be to put comics EVERYWHERE...i got into comics because they were sold at 7-11 (which is where the marvel universe trading cards were also sold, which is what REALLY got me hooked)

    bookstores, supermarkets, corner stores...EVERYWHERE!!! some of these places carry archie and a few xmen-spiderman-superman books...maybe

    of course it would help if the titles these stores carried were diverse enough to grab EVERYONE, and the prices could be lower (even though people will blow tons of money on crappy magazines at the checkout), but my ONE thing is that comics should be sold everywhere

    make it so, phantom stranger!

    1. ALL of these are long shots.

    2. What was your one solution?

    My point was by introducing them into schools and making them part of the required curriculum over your lifetime you're exposed to different genres and age specific comics. Byt the time you're an adult you KNOW there's variety and not just the same old spandex power fantasies out there.

    Think about it, how did you know there were diferent kinds of BOOKS in bookstores and libraries? Same concept.

    Do only trades. This should have been implemented from the getgo.

    i had a thought when i was at barnes and nobles the other day. they used to have their fiction section broken doen into genres horror sci fi, romance, etc. now they have them all together in alphabetical order. i havent been there in awhile but whne i was there i would go over to the horror section and peek around (i like horror novels) and but something that caught my eye. now i cant go look for what i want. i would be forced to look through ALL the books to find something new. now when i go into my local shop, the shelves are divided up into company then alphabetical with in that. if i were a fan of tom clancy, i couldnt go into a comic shop and find a suspense comic because it would be sandwiched between capes and cowls comics and i would have no idea where to look.

    solution:

    a unilateral movement to organize comics (in graphic novel format)in outlets other than comic shops by genre instead of publisher. then advertise these right along advertisements for novels print ads.

    as a stunt, get known authors to start new titles. i remember when marvel got clive barker to write comics? i was so excited. but his comics were comics, in the negative connotation of the term. kid ecto? come on! i wanted him to come out with some original books of blood type material. hell, even gaiman's return to the endless got some press because he was the writer of neverwhere and american gods. so, have marvel strike a deal with clancy, or king, or barker, or rice, or whoever to create a comic that is keeping in spirit with their other stuff. bring in their crowd.

    have t.v. adds. teasers of 20 seconds of animation done in the style of the art of the book teasing the story followed by 10 seconds of where to go to get it and any other hype you can list. just enough to make people want to go and pick it up.

    this can happen!! make it so number 1! ;cap;

    I forgot who said it, but one of the reasons why comics aren't being sold in supermarkets is cuz they weren't selling that well a few years back, so they canned 'em. I remember I would get all my comics from the local supermarket, which plenty of new comic sfrom Marvel, DC, and Image, and I would get all my comics there. However, I got a job there about a year ago, and found that they no longer sold comics. I asked a manager why that was, and they said that they didn't sell. Same with the local pharmacy. First they have to sell in regular shops, then they can go into supermarkets and pharmacies. At least that's what I think.
