Sounds great. So it makes you look sick?

I'll have to second popninja's suggestion.
The Atkins diet, or anything similar, will definitely work with next to no exercise.
Last June I was about 180 and on the chubby side. For 2 straight months I would eat mainly tuna, beef, and chicken plus vegetables, peanut butter, and whole grain bread. In about 1 month I lost 20 lbs. Since then I've lost a total of 30 lbs and I feel pretty good. I'm very energetic these days.
The main points are to eat as little carbohydrates as possible, unless it's either immediately before or after exercise. If you must absolutely have carbohydrates, try to have them before 4 pm so that you have time to burn it all off.
Don't eat after 7 pm. The earlier you eat, the more time you have to burn all them calories before you go to bed. I use to eat right before I went to bed which lead to me feeling very fatigued in the morning and massive weight gain.
Drinks lots of water.
When I went back to school last September, my friend's girlfriend saw me and asked me if I had been sick because I had lost so much weight. We had already met a few times during the summer and at work everyone thought I suffered some illness that caused me to lose so much weight.
Really, Atkins works. Read a little about it.
If it don't smell funny, eat it.

Naw. It's just when you drop weight that fast, people tend to wonder. Same thing happened to me at my job. I had a girl pull me aside, all serious, asking me if I was okay.Originally posted by MC Fumunda

Heh. Caston used to be fat.
Now he's super skinny.
People worry about him.
All that crack, ya know.
Drink lots of water - a big glass before dinner will help fill you up.
Atkins worked for me short term, but feeding a whole family without cheap carbs is a bitch on the wallet. But cutting down on carbs and being selective about what carbs you do eat is managable.
Buy Hershey's Kisses instead of Hershey bars if you're going to have sugar in the house and only eat 2.
Keep a log for a week of the crap you eat (it's probably a lot more than you think) and then schedule crap eating times (Eat a small bit after dinner and proper dessert once a week).
Don't eat within three hours of bedtime.
It doesn't take long to get used to skim milk and diet soda.
and...
...exercise.
Jogging a mile and 1/2 takes less than 20 minutes. Take shorter shits, move your toilet reading 'till bedtime and go for a jog. Get one of them fancy jogging stroller's - kids love that shit.
Small steps, make small goals. Trade housework/sexual favors for goals reached. It can happen without too much trauma.
Good luck, man...I know it's tuff.
i cant do the atkins thing. i go crazy without any carbs. from what i know it all comes down to math. you should figure out your body fat percentage . then you should convert it from pounds to kilograms by dividing by 2.2. using this number you can calculate a more accurate Basal Metabolic Rate(the amount of calories your body burns just sitting comatose for 24 hours).
your BMR is:
(21.6 x your lean body mass in kg) +370=BMR
your AMR (Active Metabolic Rate, total calories you burn in a day) depends on your activity in a week. you multiply your BMR by:
1.2 if you are very sedentary
1.3 if you are lightly active (everyday activity, no exercise)
1.4 if you work out a few times a week
1.5 - 1.6 if you work out a lot, like 5 or six days a week
1.8 if you are extremely active (exercise 6 to 7 times a week for more than an hour in duration)
so, if you want to lose weight, you need to take in less calories than you burn. you can do this by either increasing your activity and burning more (exercise) or taking in less (dieting). or both. one pound of fat contains 3500 calories. that means if you want to lose one pound a week, then you want to burn 500 more calories a day than you take in. two pounds means 1000 calories less. BUT you dont want to go below your BMR because then your body will start to go into famine mode and break down lean tissue to conserve energy. thats not good.
i would suggest lifting weights and some light cardio 3 or 4 times a week and then calculating your AMR using 1.4 or 1.5 depending on how long you want to work out. and reducing it by 750-1000 calories a day.
what should you eat?
1 gram of protein = 4 calories
1 gram of carbs = 4calories
1 gram of fat =9 calories
you should eat 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight (within reason, if you are 450 pounds and most of it is fat, you dont want to eat 450 grams of protein. its too hard on the kidneys), and fats should make up about 15-20% of your total calorie intake.
so, if you weigh 210 pounds, you should eat 210 grams of protein a day ( i was 238 and was eating 210 a day), or 840 calories from protein. then figure out 20% of the AMR you are using and that will be your recommended fat calories for the day. the remainder of the calories should come from carbs such as potatoes, brown rice, vegetables, etc.
you should eat up to 6 (if you can) balanced little meals a day evenly spaced. this will keep your insulin levels even and promote fat loss. it will speed up your metabolism a little too. i pre-cook and pre-pack my meals and use protein bars and shakes for quick and easy meal substitution. i will cook enough chicken and lean beef and rice and potatoes for three days and portion it out. then eating is easy and automatic for the next few days. i eat at 9am, 12 noon, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm, and midnight. its not bad to eat a little something before you go to bed. if you are lifting your body will build its muscle the most while you sleep so it will need protein. the carbs you eat should be complex so that they break down slowly and regulate blood sugar while you sleep. if you go to bed hungry your body may begin breaking down muscle and that is bad. fat before bed is not good.
you should get some baby carrots for when you get the munchies and bottles you can carry around for water. drink a gallon or two of water a day as well. you are probably dehydrated. i used to feel like shit all the time, but then i cut out soda and drank a gallon of water a day and i felt 100% better a day into my diet (i pissed a lot though).
basically you want to gain muscle, and you will lose fat faster. even if the scale isnt dropping as fast as you might like, you will not lose (you may actually gain) muscle and you will look better, and your clothes will fit better. atkins can cause your body to lose muscle (from my very limited readings on it) and drives some people to commit murder. plus, you gain the weight back real fast if you start eating normal carbs again (this has been the case with several of my friends who have tried it).
i have a personal trainer friend who helped me. i am currently fighting this same fight. i have been doing a lot of research on this lately so, any questions, ask me here or shoot me a pm and i will be happy to tell you anything i have read.

if you dont want to exercise the best thing to do is just start eating right.
Tell your wife, or yourself to stop buying the oreos or the chocolate bars. my own experience is that if its not in the house. your not going to eat it.
The first few weeks will be a real bitch. (speaking from experience) but after that you become very used to it.
I go home from work now in the evenings. have dinner and usually dont even think about food till the next day around lunch time. If i do. theres nothing there to eat anyway so its all good.
