Remebmer, you need a closed or semi-closed narrative that stretches no more than 20 pages. And I think it's a good idea to plan for 15-16 pages, so that you have a bit of padding if you need it.
Hey all!, I just saw Carter and Inkthinker's work in the Tokyo Pop thread up in the sketch section and came here to see what was going on. I saw the two WIP stories here and since I'm also entering and and have no writing skills, I thought I might as well get help from the good folks of this fine forum! I need help!
"SuperCop John"(working title) Is a fun little action story I'm doing for this competition, that if I win(Probably not but hopes!) could be turned into an ongoing series or a webcomic afterwards. It's more of a realistic world with some fantastic elements thrown in.
Characters : John(The titular character) is a grizzled cop who does his best to serve the city, except he does things abit more brashly than other cops. He carries grenades(Some smoke, some incendiary) and non-issued guns to get the job done. During a crisis, he's usually the first on the scene and the last out.
Other characters minor characters in the story are the chief of the police department, John's best friend( a beat cop), and a female voice on the other said of John's com link( I'm thinking of ditching that idea in favor for more time with either the beat cop or the chief).
There a 3 baddies in this story, The Pig, The Snake, and the Rooster. 3 very enhanced villians with powers, they are also very loosely based on the Three Cardinal Faults in Hinduism. The Pig is a large "Brute with a sumo or "World's Strongest Man" type build, he deals in heavy weapons and is resistant to damage. THe Rooster is a guy who has psychic powers(Telepathy, telekinesis). For the Snake, I'm not quite sure how to use him but his powers will probably be based somewhat on his avatar(The Snake represents Hate in Hinduism).
Conflict These 3 guys have escaped from an unknown facilty and a re wreaking mass havoc upon the city. It's war on the streets to bring these guys down, message from the gov't says they're wanted Dead of Alive. John has to stop them.
Resolution City is left in shambles, 2 of the badguys die and one is caught. John may or may not get some shocking news from Snake(I'm not sure that if I do it, it may be one cliche' too many)
THats all I got now, would you all want to read something like that?

Good idea, I was planning to try an use all 20 pages just to so that I would have about 5 pages focusing on John Himself, 5 on the Pig, 10 finding and tracking down and finding The rooster, and the last 10 on Snake.
Actually, now that I think about it, I could cut back some for now. The way I had it now, it would take forever to finish with my meager skills and it'd be quicker to write. I've got to get started before the end of January.

What is this rising stars of manga thing? Can I enter it, and does it have to be in prose, or can it be in a comic script thing.
Its right Here
These are stories for Manga submissions. It has to be a full 15-20 page Manga with pencils, inks and all. So, if you were just going to do writing, you might want to hook up with an artist because they don't accept prose. The rest of the rules are in the link given.![]()
