i got "Somewhere Within The Shadows" tonight. I had been hoping for an english translation of this for a while now because my french is really not that great.

i have to say that this is one of the most beautifully illustrated graphic novels that i've ever seen. i don't often take my time reading through a GN, but in this case, i really savored each page. i must've spent an hour and a half on it easy.

i'm glad i got ahold of it now, because it's one less Bande Dessine for me to pick up when i go to france next month (i'm gonna go nuts buying stuff!)

    highest possible recomendation!

Ooh ooh, Bob, when in France, make sure to buy -or at least look into- Soda, Western (Van Hamme and Roszinski), and of course the second Blacksad GN.
And Prosopopus, by Etienne de Crécy. It's got no text, so the language isn't a problem.

haha! excellent Ra. I was actually thinkin about PMing you to see if you had any recomendations like this.

    thanks man

last night i went through and looked up some other BD to look for. maybe you can gimme an opinion on if it's good or not?

here are some that i think look cool, or have been interested in for a while now...

    • L'anneau des 7 mondes
    • Blacksad tome 2
    • Skydoll
    • Ring Circus
    • Le Marteau des socieres
    • prophet
    • Les Echaudeurs des tenebres
    • Peter Pan (regis Loisel is sooooooooo awesome!)
    • Gargouilles
    • anything by Claire Wendling

what are your thoughts on this list? anything i should avoid? or anything better that i should get instead? I plan on goin nuts buying this stuff, since there's really no other viable way for me to get it around here I added Soda, Western and Prosopopus to my list

damn those crazy french can draw!

Don't know 'Ring circus' and 'echaudeurs des tenebres'. I looked 'em up and they're nice, so it would seem. The rest of the list is certainly worth checking out.

And yeah, if you're into Peter pan, Loisel's version is a must have.

Oh yeah, one of my all time favorite graphic novels is the last album of 'spirou & fantasio' : 'Machine qui rêve' (translated: Machine that dreams).
Actually, all the albums that Tome and Janry did of Spirou are great. But definitely look up the latest one.

'Kogaratsu' is also pretty big over here. My favorite album would be the ninth. 'La stratégie des phalènes'.

Ah, not to forget: Largo Winch. By Van Hamme and Philippe Franq. Huge, huge sales. Very enjoyable. Numbers 3 and 4 are the best scenario-wise. Art-wise probably the last ones. Franq draws some incredible backgrounds.

God, I could do this all day. Well, I'd suggest just taking the time to scoot around in a comic book store. You'll have plenty to view.

    Man, I hate the USA.
    For comics, at least.

    It's a reasonable price, yes.
    € = $, give or take of few %.
