Fixed my decision on the movie right there...
I was bored at work today so I took a long lunch and caught the flick.
Well, it’s not half bad, it’s just not half good either.
The Story:
There wasn’t anything extraordinarily unique about the story, but we all knew that. The characters are un-interesting and the pacing was jarring. It’s supposed to be over a few nights, but it all runs as one long night. There was no day time at all and almost zero interactions with any humans. It felt very detached from our world (not always a bad thing I suppose). My major problem with the story (and one I have most of the time they use century old characters) was the back story. There was a lot there, and they spend so much time explaining the back story that I lost any connection to the present characters. There is a MAJOR male character that the whole thing revolves around, and I couldn’t have cared less about him because they spent no time developing him.
My biggest grief was the braking of rules!!! There are rule when you are going to use Vampires. They don’t die from bites or neck breaking! Golly!
When it come to the story, this would have been better as a mini series on HBO or something. That way they could have spent more time on the people that we are supposed to care about.
The Acting: SUCKED. Kate was boring, but the worst was the guy that played Kraven. SUPER CLICHÉ!
The Look: Black leather always looks cool, and they pull it off well. The look of everything was nice, and the best thing about the movie. Although, to be honest, if you’ve seen the trailer you’ve seen most of the best stuff.
The Action: Who goes a movie about Werewolves and Vampires to watch gun fights? There are only a few action scenes in the move (cause they spend so much time on the back story) and they aren’t that good. These are immortals, but they all go down way too easily. They could have done a lot more with this side of the story.
All in all, it was decent for a matinee price. A few cool things (like the high tech bullets) a few stupid things (like the awakening) and an obvious desire to create a sequel.

There is no great genius without some touch of madness.

The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.
Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992)
I'll catch it just because I'm bored with all the other crap at the flicks right now.

as much as i want to see a movie where there's an awe inspiring slo mo shot of a chick jumping into a puddle ()..........i'll pass.
Listen, I've heard this all before. Maybe I'm not exactly human, but for 50 years I've been out there saving lives, beating the crap out of things like you. That makes me the good guy. You're the monster.
i might as well go see pirates of the carribean cause i missed that... mebe its out in the dollar theater now!
"Beware of artists - they mix with all classes of society and are therfore most dangerous" - Queen Victoria
Just saw Underworld too.
Thoughts: I agree that since all the story took place at night it seemed like one long continuous night even though it was suppose to be over the course of a few days.
Big black guy who was a lichen(sp?). Only reason that guy was in the movie (I'm sure) was because they couldn't afford Michael Clark Duncan.
I did like however how the good guys and the bad guys were not as black and white. That's all I'm saying.
Could you be more obvious about a sequel? If it happens I wouldn't be surprised if it is a "straight to DVD" release. Although, I would probably rent it.
As far as vampire sequels goes...Blade 2 (for me) still holds the title for most kick @$$ (excuse the language).

I caught a sneak preview of it this past monday. It was ok for a freebie.
That one dude (Kraven, I think) looked like Gene Simmons on steroids. Yeah, I would have liked to see more fleshed out characters. A mini-series would have definitely worked better IMO. ;bat;

No, he got the role because he co-wrote and produced the film.Originally posted by eonprez
