    Jack Black vs. Tom Cruise

I don't care how old these movies are, I just watched these in this order the other day:

    1. Shallow Hal
    2. Vanilla Sky

    Which did people like here?

I think that Vanilla sky WOULD have been a small bit interesting if I hadn't watched Shallow hal first.
Basically because shallow hal was about how we're supposed to overlook the external ugliness of 95% of the world population and respect the inner beauty or whatever. Sometimes that 5% of the population that pleases our eyes is some dirty ole demon inside.
It was a funny movie. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it. now. it's crude but funny.

    Now, vanilla sky,
I already saw total recall once. And some/most of us have to wake up in the morning every day to see an ugly face in the mirror. We are better off not giving a ****. WTF was the point? I'm not sure if it's just that I saw it AFTER Shallow Hal that influenced my opinion or not. I was quite pissed off that I wasted so much time watching that movie once I found out what was really going on. I could have been drawing or studying or wanking, or anything but watching that B.S.(sorry movie maker dudes, we are all entitled to our humble opinions)
I think everyone already knows the best line in the movie so I won't type it here. It's when psycho Diaz was in the car with him. . . .other than that, yaaaaawwwwwnnnnnn.

    So in the end,
    Jack Black wins. KO.

*edit* oops I just saw that someone is quoting Vanilla Sky on their signature, no offense please. I'm just dissing the movie here in contrast with another.

does anyone else have an opinion to share? Compare and contrast these two or other related films?

I think ill have to go the other way on this one.

while i did like shallow hal i thought it certianly wasnt jack blacks best work. it had its funny moments but they were too far apart. you wanna see a great jack black movie. go rent high fedility.

and as for vanilla sky. i really really liked it. its smart and cool. and i just love the way the ending ****s you at the end. and if you watch it a second time. its all so clear. maybe i was biased cause im a huge Cameron Crowe fan. and if you didnt like that go rent almost famous .. Crowes best work .. if you dont include say anything.. but im pretty sure most of you kids arnt into the old 80s John Huges style movies.

thats just how i felt .. no flaming .. no name calling.. just disagreeing with you.

    *IMHO*
Some People are like Slinkies .. they are completely useless. but you cant help but smile when you see them tumbling down the stairs.

I was told yesterday to go get Hi fidelity.
    Will do.

How are you gonna have a movie, that carries and builds mystery through the whole movie, and instead of eventually finding out through circumstances and situations, he just runs into some skinny dude with a big head, that just uses words to explain the whole movie? At the very end? Bah. This movie, in my opinion did not get from point a to point b, and thats why it was no good. plus, he doesn't go through transition to find out a resolution, tech support steps in and rambles away. . . .
you probably liked Leaving Los Vegas too.

I agree about Vanilla Sky being a disappointment. I had heard good things about it but it was pretty much a let down. Mostly I think its because it hits you with this ending that just doesnt fit with the rest of the story. The whole movie is this kind of psychological mystery/thriller kind of thing and then they hit you with this total science fiction ending. It just doesnt fit right to me.

i liked vanilla sky. i saw it with a female friend and my sister. it was very interesting.

i saw shallow hal on hbo, and i found most of it to be humorous, but that whole guy with the tail thing was dumb.

my favorite linr from vanilla sky was when the doctors were explaining the theraputic facial prosthesis thing to cruise and he says, "oh. i'm releived, because for a second there, i thought we were talkin about A F*CKING MASK!!!!!!!"

I liked Vanilla Sky, thought Shallow Hall was an incredibly unfunny movie.

Although comparing the two is pretty hard to do. It's like comparing Shawkshank Redemption to Slackers.

to tell the truth I've never seen either shawshank redemption OR slackers?
    which one is better?
I just saw the OOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLDDDDD version of my favorite all time movie Scarface

The one where they are dealing in booze instead of cocaine, and I must say the second one with Pacino is better.
I've fallen asleep on the classic ancient one twice so far.

The line with the Mask WAS funny. The more I think about it, I DO understand the movie, you can't put someone in a sleep state because unfortunately we have nightmares,
most likely if that happened the person would be brought back to conciousness insane.

And that was the need for tech support.
but the movie was still no fun to watch for me personally.
Jack Black is more entertaining to watch than a disfigured Tom Cruise.
But Thom Yorke is also better to listen to(Get the new Radiohead album, or borrow it off of your friend)

I rarely post anything on here but this caught my interest.

I saw both movies and I have to say Shallow Hal was above and beyond entertainment-wise compared to Vanilla Sky. SH is just plain funny. The jokes are definitely a little crude and the laughs never ceases. VS confused me to a level that hasn't been reached since the first Mission Impossible movie. Funny that they both starred Mr. Tom Cruise. Maybe I'm not a deep guy, but walking out of the theatre I felt like it was just Cruise's way of saying 'Hey, I'm good looking. If I didn't have good looks I would have nothing'. In fact, finishing Vanilla Sky made me feel just a little bit more 'shallow'.

    True.
I felt more like hitting someone for telling me I should see it.
He's a friend of mine who gets free movies so I didn't.
