Midieville:"Lookout"

This is my from my lil' comic strip "Midieville". Seen here are Waldorf the Magician and his owl Milton. I sorta back burnered it, but may go back to it sometime.

Haha, j/k. Where's the "Moooo!"? You need a "mooooo!" in there. Anyway, this one gives me chance to expound on another one of the "rules". This one is sometimes refered to as "lineups". Another enemy of depth in an illustration.

If done intentionally, it can be used to create rhythm in the drawing, but accidental ones like you have here just distract the eye from the main gist of the illustration. Our eyes look for patterns and will connect lines that look like they belong together, even if they don't. I've marked some for you in this overlay.

And as soon as I get back home to pick 'em up, I'll be contributing bits of my very rough single panel strip "Oddsbodkins"....wait a sec, where would I put it?....hmmmm......

But when I say rough I mean it. I pretty much just sketched them all out in pen real quick. I've not added a new one in ages. I did gain some insight into the Farside though. I now get the ones that no one gets. ;]

Glad to help. I look forward to seeing more. I guess you'd stick single panel 'toons in the Drawing forum, though if it's that sketchy the Sketchbook forum might be more appropriate.

One other note regarding this particular strip... and you'll have to excuse me because I tend to be a stickler for grammar and spelling, but the correct spelling is "medieval" and not "midieval." So while I think the name is very creative, your strip should probably be spelled Medieville. As a matter of fact, it's very creative. A search on Google came up with nothing like it except people that can't spell "medieval." Of course, the only way to protect the title of the strip would be to register a trademark, as copyrights don't protect ideas, words, or short phrases. Usually not worth it unless the strip is making you some money.

Of course, it might have just been a goof at the keyboard, because now I notice that you misspelled your own name.

Oh my gosh, now that's embarassing....I never noticed the extra "L" since theyre thin and close together....

The spelling of the strip is intentional though. I like to play around with words. I looked up the actual spelling cause I was never sure. However the "ville" is to mean...well "ville". As I've got a cast of characters that make up the strip.

The lil' knight Sir Edmond. His trusty steed/sidekick/enchanted pig, SWINE(Strathmoore William Ian Nevil Esquire III). Edmond's pet dragon Digby. A dimbwitted king.

Yeah, I got that. I only meant to say that I thought it should be "medie-ville" instead of "midie-ville." Of course, I wrote it right before I went to bed last night, so I was probably rambling uncontrollably.

Ooops!! I didn't catch the "e". Thanks. I am afflicted with a hoosier accent and try as I may still spell something the way I say it...though I've done pretty darn well at gettin' rid of most of it.
