Watching Bommeraction has melted my brain

Oh, man... this stuff is painful... I mean, really bad to the Nth degree. The animation, the writing, the voice acting, there is absolutely nothing about these cartoons that does not suck big baboon butt.

In fact, it's so bad that I understand how it's gone out the other side, to the point where it lives on as kitsch.

I will say this, though... all those rips I see on Cartoon Network, from the bumper sequences (this situation calls for... a TWENTY!) to the Harvey Birdman episodes on Adult Swim... they're all much funnier now. I mean, they were funny... but now they're really funny.

Watch Boomeraction, late Saturday nights on Cartoon Network from 1 to 6 AM... they play all the old action cartoons, Superfriends, Fantastic Four, Johnny Quest, Thundarr, the old Dick Sprang-style Batman... if you name it they're probably playing it.

And it all sucks so bad... Ohhh, the pain...

In the midst of this Retro resurrection I tried to sit through an episode of my old favorite cartoons and found myself wondering what I was missing on Skin-a-max. Your priorities change my friends, and you can't go back. JV

Alright, to be fair the animation on Johnny Quest is of pretty good quality... solid, detailed style, consistent quailty, fairly smooth (if somewhat limited) movement... I can handle this, even enjoy it.

But Dr. Quest and Race Bannon are definitely gay lovers. I mean, just look at how Race sneaks a little lover's peak at the Doc in the opening sequence, during the character credits.

    Totally.

The Adventures of Ug the Caveman and Dino Boy

I think I may be irreversibly damaging my cerebrum.

So that's where the Ug in those Cartoon Network bumper ads came from... I never knew.

then why didn't you join my PoDW drawoff awhile back? I was about to razz you for this show, but you covered your ass. You got lucky. Same goes for classic Johnny Quest, that group of artists was great. usually someone died in every episode, too.

I just saw an actual episode of Sealab... until now I had only seen Sealab 2021 on Adult Swim. Watching the actual, original show was even more disturbing, since Mailbox-Head Marco had a white guy's accent and Captain Murphy wasn't insane and in the closet snockering Buckethead Wendy.

but I kept expecting them to...

    It was so painfully Bizarro.

man, we need the boomeraction lineup organized and written out, cause i keep forgetting when Pirates of the Dark Water came on and fall asleep all the time.

And on Sealab 2021 they did an episode that was actually a whole unaltered episode of Sealab 2020 and the whole thing made me uncomfortable, until the end credits when sealab exploded for no reason. whew.
