Exclamation we are in the wrong business

I don't care how comic related my posts are, this is art related:

Just looked at a few Books:
    1.Maharajas' Jewels
    2.Traditional Jewelry of India
    3.Falize: a dynasty of jewelers

    Wow. Art.

I'm heading in the wrong direction once again. I think I'd rather be sculpting gold, silver, and rubies, and diamonds all day rather than sitting at some drawing table drinking too much coffee with some mechanical pencils.

oh well. maybe it's the coffee speaking right now, but if anyone checks out any of those books, they will be amazed.

hahahaha and if you chose to try it will take you all day and then some. Metalsmithing is one of the most time consuming forms of art I know of, it requires true precision, craftsmenship, and a slight masochistic streak...cause even the easy bits can be effing hard. I love it with all my heart, but it is tough at times and very costly to get into.

Rey is right. theres a reason jewlers get paid so much .. its cause not everyone can do it.. even the artist creative types. it takes years and years and years and years to get to a point where your work even starts to look passable as high class jewlery

I sculpt all day, just not in metal. It would be cool to try, especially sine I have some ideas I'd like to translate into metal adornments

metal is a completely different animal. If you enjoy proccess and long hours you can do it. The tools are very expensive. A workable torch is anywhere from 100-1000 dollars and a torch is an absolute must. I do this alot, I have about 2 years worth of formal training and a 20 years of just growing up with tools and making things, my professor considered me a natural, but I'm still a novice at best. If you are really interested you can email me (its in my profile) and I can give you more tips. There is a great site for getting started, its a little pricey, but its availability makes it better than tracking down a jewelry supply store (which are hard to come by...the closest one to me is 45 miles away...) That site is www.Jewelrysupply.com they have everything you need to get started in small time stuff. They don't carry the specialty stakes and hammers for forming...I haven't found a site that does so I just blacksmith my own when I need them...I hope some of this helps you.

    O yeah!

thanx Rey! The more I look at this stuff and consider it, the more it seems mandatory to an agenda!

that was justr what I need to find the correct info in one quick spot.

Of course it WOULD take a long while to get started but here's looking toward he future.
