Ahhhhh!!!!!!
i have a dilemma .... the other day i was on my computer at home playing snood with my two year old son ... i left him on the chair to use the rest room ... while taking care of natures course i hear him mashing the keys on the keyboard ...*beep beep ....beep*... upon exiting the restroom i see my desktop has dissapeared and aol is trying to install itself onto my computer ... in a panic driven desperation i ran over to my computer and held in the power button letting the hum of the beast be put to rest ... yesterday after getting home from work i went to go log on and post some work for my doctor strange assignment in critical mass ... but alas , as soon as my desktop pops up 4 or 5 error messages pop up saying " blah blah has caused an error in unknown module .." AGHHHH!!!!! hopefully i can still get on my adelphia cable ... click start go to favorites click penciljack... window starts to come on , then d'oh , error message appears "explorer has an error in module unknown " ... what am i to do ... i hunted down that damn aol logos and deleted em hoping to uninfest my computer of its retched grasp ... reboot ... same thing ... go to start up , run, command , winipcfg... ip address 0.0.0.0 ... what the hell is this ...reset it ... but it keeps defaulting to 0 ....AGHHHHH!!!!.... check out internet options have to re delete all other modems ... it still doesnt work ... call adelphia ... they say ... if the message says explorer than i have to contact microsoft ... contact microsoft , your computer is an hp ( last time i buy a store bought computer ... cant upgrade for crap) i will need to either contact them for support ... or pay microsoft 35bucks to figure it out ... so before i go home tonight and decide my fate ... does any one have any ideas of what i can do short of reformating my computer ( which is what im seriously considering ... )

start your computer in SAFE MODE, and then try to figure it out. safe mode does not allow any of the 'extra' crap to load up when Windows starts...

yeah but im not sure what to look for once im in safemode????

when in safe mode, it's a lot easier to uninstall crap like AOL and such. see if you get any of the startup problems in safe mode. check your startup folder 'start, all programs, startup' to see if there is anything launchin at startup that you don't want. go to run and type 'msconfig' and go to the startup tab. this will show you everything that is starting along with your pc. you can pick and choose what you do and don't want to start.
you can also use reg seeker (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm) to clean out your registry, but BACK UP EVERYTHING first, unless you are pretty well-versed in registry entries....
good luck
if you can, post the exact messages that you are getting

and, and by the way, reformatting is usually pretty good thing to do. I do a scour of my system and backup any images and files I may need and make sure I got all my drivers and crap, and format my pc once a year or so. My pc always seems to run better with all the crap outta there (naturally) and the way I figure it, if there is a program I haven't used in 4 or 5 months, chances are I won't need it any time soon...
