Comics genres that are getting tired...

Let me know which styles of comics you think are getting over-played... what are you seeing too damn much of on the shelf?

For my part, I'm sick of

Superheroes (although books with superheroes in which said characters are not the main focus can be interesting... Powers, for example... but please, no more stories about someone gaining superpowers and using them to fight crime. Bleah. In fact, I'm damn near sick of super-powers period.

Bad manga-stylists and clones artists (good manga stylists are fine, but if your primary influences are Humerto Ramos, Joe Madureira, or J. Scott Campbell then I'm probably sick of it already, before I've even looked at it. All those guys are great. All their clones are not)

Y'know, that's actually pretty much it... those two items seem to take up the largest portion of the racks at my comics shop.

But anyhow, what are you sick of seeing on the shelf at the comics shop? What are the topics and genres that an artist should just avoid, unless he somehow enjoys being a small fish in a huge, somewhat crowded pond?

Is there anything other than superhero books to be sick of? I'm not aware of any other genre/category with enough titles to actually be sick of seeing on the shelves. But, if you want an art style thing I'm sick of it's those Electra covers and things that look like it.

Yeah, I'm sick of superheros. I got sick of them back in middle school.

I'm also kinda bored with certain indy stuff, stories with characters that are really cynical and bored with life. That sort of: "life's bland and I don't care" humor.

Yeah and it frustrates my friends and I (who I admittedly think are all good manga artists) to see all these really bad manga-influenced artists giving people like us a bad name. It frustrates me to be categorized in with these people and it makes manga seem more fad-like than introducing it as a technique.

And i'm bored of crime stories, detective stories that are all dark and have lots of contrast in their drawings. That just doesn't appeal to me, but I know lots of people that love it.

And I'm tired of fantasties where the women are all sexual objects. Where are the comics with the pretty boys!? uh... anyway, I won't get into that cause that could be a whole other topic on its own.

OH OH!! And I'm also tired of glossy colors, you know... those shiney covers done in photoshop that image has a lot of? Yeah, I don't think I was ever really fond of that type of coloring. It just looks so... cold.

And I want to see more creator-owned comics where the same person writes/inks/colors/pencils. Yeah... enough of this factory-production.

I'm already tired of all the independents that have that Jhonen Vazquez style art and humor. It was cool back in the day when it first became popular via Beetlejuice but now it seems that almost every independent artist has some deformed main character whose only powers are toilet humor.

Even thought I only buy a few comics a month nowadays, I can't say I am sick of any genre.
I don't really care what the books about, just how it's done.
It's not your fault, it's mine, because I forgot you are stupid.

I gotta agree with the superhero thing. But if someone does a more realistic story about what a person would REALLY do if he/she gained super-powers, I might buy into it.... for a while, at least.

I'm also sick and tired of comics characters who are supposed to be dead but through the wonders of "new continuity", manages to survive. But I guess that's just business. If you're gonna bring some comic character back, at least have some different person (someone besides the original character who's supposedly dead) put on the costume through a different origin story and stop this whole re-interpretation of the original origin story, where you add things that weren't there before.

I don't know man, I gotta somewhat disagree on the superhero thing. It's sorta tired because there's ass loads of it and most it it sucks, but if any story is done well it's gonna be good. THere's been some really good Superhero stuff goin on lately. I've totally been liking Daredevil and that Kevin Smith Spider-man and whatnot. We just gotta cut out all the BS like most third rate shmuck titles
