Are you an indy or mainstream creator? What do you do? Hype yourself!!

I am currently handling the pencilling and inks for a three issue mini-series called "Drive" from Frequency Press (do me a favour - call Diamond at (410) 560-7100 and ask them if they're going to be carrying it. Everyone, do this now! thanks ) as well as Pencils, Inks and Lettering for Engine Comics "Vox Londinium", a short story in their quarterly anthology series, "Fusion", available on October 20th, 2002 (Preview it here on Penciljack or email enginecomics@hotmail.com to buy a copy!!)
I know there are many of you who are doing comics, but we artists being the modest folks that we are, may not have mentioned exactly what it is... Well, now's you're chance! What are you publishing (print or otherwise) what do you do on it (write, draw, etc.?) and when and where can we get ahold of it? Inquiring minds want to know!!

I'm drawing a frequently late web-comic called Poy-Gambinos. We draw about a thousand hits a day (not great, but still pretty good) and we're right in the middle of a storyline and we're thinking of something to try to put into one-shot form for next year's conventions.

Indy is my way... Ah, by the way, around Christmas I will probably release a new (indy) 3 issue series, but for now I'm still under negociations with some small publishers... Yeah, the "negociation" is truly the worse part of the business, but the rest is like a piece of cake...

I've never made more than $5 for a single piece of my art, but then again I'm not a pro (and not planning to be one.) Most of my art I give away or throw away. My art was printed in a magizine once, but then again the magizine was sponsered by a close friend and I bribed him. I use one kind of pencil to draw all of my art work, my trusty mechanical pencil. I use computer paper for all of my art work. I spend 90% of the time thinking about what and how to draw than actually drawing. For a short period of time during my elementary schooling, I had to use my "drawing skills" to get friends.

I ink for "Cataclysm press" producing a select variety of sci-fi and fantasy titles. Cyrrent projects are called "Realmer" (sci-fi) "Amalgamus" (sci-fi) and "Ishtanna" (Fantasy set in Ancient Egypt)

I dabble a bit in coloring.. but we've only so far produced full size black and white self covers.

Also Currently working on submitting a portfolio to "Approbation Comics" also based in Louisville Ky.. producers of "Vampires Unlimited"

Hey Joel... I neglected to mention the rest of the creative team on "Drive". Joel handles the colours (due to budgetary reasons I think frequency is sticking to the covers with b&w interiors) and the whole kit and kaboodle is the brainchild of Nate Southard, who has also done something on Op8.com called "hearing things" with PJ's very own John Muth, if I'm not mistaken. The cover does rawk though, Joel. You know this. I don't think they've printed the book yet, 'cause I haven't gotten my comps either.
So what's next for everyone? If you're doing indy stuff how do you pay the bills? What keeps you motivated? Do you ever hope to go mainstream? It sounds like we've got a lot of variety around here... how do we get ahold of your stuff (specifically Krosis... you didn't mention a website of anything)?
For myself, I'm not sure what's after "Drive", but i have some creator owned stuff that I'd sure like to explore... and I can't seem to help but find collaborators wherever I go. Which is way cool. I'm also doing samples all the time, with hopes of landing a mainstream gig eventually. I work at Denny's as a server to pay the bills and that is my motivation to keep going (the dream of someday never having to put on that uniform again!!)

FD, I hear ya. I've been down that negotiation trail before, and the bottom always seems to fall out before you even get working on something! Or if you do get to the point where they have copies of the art, it never sees print. That's why I feel so lucky with the two companies I'm working for now. I know for certain everything will go as planned. That is such a relief. Anyone else have any horror stories out there?
