Doing more price research for potential purchase - Microsoft store is offering some really fantastic prices on 1st Gen Surface Book units. Hundreds of dollars off. You're still looking at a $700+ purchase, but the hardware is pretty robust when stacked against the entry level Surface Pro 2017.

    Refurbished Surface Book offers.

Okay, I pulled the trigger on a refurb Surface Book. $520 off is too much to resist. It cost less than I paid for my refurb SP2 three years ago. It's not the new hotness I've been salivating over, but the CPU, 8GB RAM, and dedicated GPU all seem like a reasonable trade-off to fit within my budget. I've gotten three years of great use out of my SP2 and it's still kicking ass. I'd just like a larger screen, and a little more horse power for when I fart with vidya games.

    Research material.
