Alex, love your work, man. But you seem to be using white as a highlight which doesn't work because it flattens the image. Use your drafted shadows as a guide for darker areas because it's already there.
I know I kinda suck at coloring - I'm working on it and the best way to to do that is to do more of it. So, I've been offering color as an option with commissions and I've had a few takers. Here's a recent one:

Thanks for the comment Dri. Actually, I used no white at all on this piece. I chose all the colors and even the extreme highlights were not white. It's really just poor choices with colors. I'm still working on it and I need more crits, so keep 'em comin'!![]()

Yeah, it's the colour palette. For more vibrant colours if you are colouring with photoshop, choose the values on the right side of the colour picker. Those have less grey values which flattens out colour and makes it look dull.
The client specifically wanted faded jeans and a light pink top. Is that what you're seeing as too white or is her skin tone and hair lighting too white as well?
