Thread: Nature speed-ish paint

    Nature speed-ish paint

Two nature studies, one fast and one moderately quick. I know it's not comics-related, but hopefully it still interests the artist in you.

A small waterfall (that I think has been landscaped out ) from my alma mater - 40 minutes:

The values and colors look very good, I think these are great speedpaints. The mini-waterfall is especially good.

My fav is the first one, i really like how you portrayed the the water flow.

The second is weaker imo, mainly because of the "piled up" texture brushes sense it has.

It looks more as a texture brush test (maybe it is - i dunno), mainly due to the fact that some of those brushes and textures simply do not have any correlation between them.

For example there is a leaf pattern on some rocks, i presume that it is supposed to give those rocks some more texture - instead of using those patterned brushes you could have used some more references of rocks, and their real textures.

    Hope it helped,
    Fallen.

That was just me painting very small and fast and forgetting what brush I had going. Just trying to do it quickly, test things out.

The round leaf pattern was simply the most obvious example.
However, what i said about the lack of "connection" between the trees, rocks, grass and etc. imo is valid also to the rest of your painting.

I'm not looking for a big critique on something I spent two hours on--it was a fun thing, more of a warm-up than anything else.

Relax man. You don't have to be so defensive. It's a critique forum so you'll get this kind of feedback. If you don't want this kind of feedback, I'd start a blog thread and post this kind of stuff there if you don't want constructive criticism.

But if you post in this section you're going to get critiques. You should actually expect them and be looking forward to critiques in this section.
