    The Sundays #2 pages 15-17

    PAGE FIFTEEN
    
    PANEL ONE
    STU taking off the headphones. He is smiling now.
    
    PANEL TWO
    SARAH runs up to STU, who in a hallway (not the lockers one) of the school. STU is taking off his headphones.
    SARAH: Stu! I got the part!
    STU: Hey cool! That’s awesome.
    SARAH: I couldn’t have done it without you!
    
    PANEL THREE
    SARAH kisses STU.
    
    PANEL FOUR
    They break off. STU is smiling. 
    STU: I love you.
    
    PANEL FIVE
    SARAH looks scared. STU looks scared.
    
    PANEL SIX
    SARAH looks concerned and is backing off. STU waves his arms emphatically.
    STU: I meant like. I like you. Lovely news! I meant. I meant “Lovely news” and that’s what I said.
    
    PANEL SEVEN
    They are standing quite far apart now.
    SARAH: Sure. Lovely news.
    STU: Sure is.

    PANEL ONE
    Same scene but NO-NICKNAME MIKE has now shown up. STU is pretending to be happy to see him.
    NO-NICKNAME MIKE: Hey guys!
    STU: No-Nickname Mike is here! Hello No-nickname Mike!
    SARAH: Hey Mike.
    
    PANEL TWO
    MIKE is holding the script up. STU has thrown his hands in the air. His fake grin is fading.
    NO-NICKNAME MIKE: Guess what Sarah- I got the part. I’m Mark.
    STU: More lovely news!
    
    PANEL THREE
    MIKE is looking in the script. STU looks sad.
    SARAH: That’s cool. I’m going to be Rose.
    NO-NICKNAME MIKE: Oh really? Hey- You know we’ve got a kissing scene together, right?
    SARAH: Yeah, I read that part.
    STU: Lovely...
    
    PANEL FOUR
    STU’s fake grin is back as NO-NICKNAME MIKE gets closer to SARAH
    NO-NICKNAME MIKE: Say, do you want to try reading it through together? See how it works?
    SARAH: Er... I guess. Stu, I’ll catch you later, okay?
    STU: Sure! Go rehearse!
    
    PANEL FIVE
    NO-NICKNAME MIKE and SARAH walk off. SARAH is looking back at STU, NO-NICKNAME MIKE appears to be doing some sort of weird dance to show off.
    
    PANEL SIX
    STU alone. He looks really sad.

    PANEL ONE
    TEDDY has snuck up behind STU. STU shouts in suprise.
    TEDDY: Hello Stu. 
    STU: Aaaargh! 
    
    PANEL TWO
    STU has turned around.
    STU: Teddy! So how did it go? Did you get in the play?
    TEDDY: No.
    STU: Oh. Shit. Sorry, man.
    
    PANEL THREE
    TEDDY: I’m not in it but they did find a special role just for me.
    STU: Lovely news! What’s the special role if it’s not in the play?
    
    PANEL FOUR
    Large panel. School corridor. TEDDY is dressed in a red and yellow fire costume. Other kids are standing around watching him, laughing. Stu, Rob, Creepy Edward and Fat Rupert, Laura and Mary are amongst them. Stu looks embarrassed. Rob is cracking up. Cool Tommy B is smiling knowingly.
    FX: RRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGG RRRRRIIIIIIIIIIINNNNGGGGG
    TEDDY: I am fire! Run from me! This hallway is ablaze! Run you mortals! Fire cares not who it burns! Young and old will be consumed by its flaming... flames!

    By the way, this three-page sequence is an extended version of two strips from the original run of The Sundays (2003-2004). This is from series two, which ran in the summer of 2003:

    I suspect he's commenting on the level of improvement. My first thought was, somehow overnight, you'd taken a massive ten year step backward. Eek! Then I read the post and learned the work was ten years old. Aha!

    Besides drawing your fingers to the bone for ten years, is there anything else behind the maturation of your work?
