    Mark Waid on NPR

Talkin' 'bout comics, digital and otherwise:

I haven't been keeping track, but apparently Waid's really ruffled feathers in the direct market?

I wasn't really following the story, but from what I understand he was trying to make all his comics(creator owned) digital. I think he also made statements about how print was dead and comic shops are over. Though he seems to be free lancing for Marvel lately. So maybe that didn't go so well, I don't know.

Short term, not so good a thing for him to say.

The shop owners (one in particular actually) were saying that Waid said that print comics were dead. The guy, a Florida retailer I think, totally blew it all out of proportion. And that's totally not what Waid was saying. Waid is still knee deep in print comics and still supports that medium and is not leaving (if you haven't read his DareDevil run, check it out. It's good.). His point was that he wanted to branch off and also work in the digital world with his new privately funded digital project www.thrillbent.com. He is selling off his personal comics collection to help fund it. I like his thoughts on digital and print. Though I'm not a big fan of the digital comics they are making. It's not "motion comics" but it's similar. But i'm glad he's doing it. He's at least exploring the digital option in new and different directions.

Oh yeah, that format is annoying. I don't get why people wanna play around with the online comics so much, just display the comic normally.. those gimmicks do nothing but cause headaches and reminders to stay clear of that creator's content.
