    Money

Are independent comics creators doing a little better ecoomically than they were four years ago? The numbers seem to suggest that they are.

    Nice Article. Thank you!

This will be interesting to watch as time passes. I think the direct market is on its last legs. I see greater diversity of purchasers for comics around the manga section of Barnes & Noble than I do at any comics shop. Once someone figures out how to make money from web-comics any opportunity to grab younger readers will vanish for the comics shops.
Just last week Comics Alliance posted a question to some non-super-hero creators about the future of non-super-hero comics. The response by Kevin Church, at the bottom, dove-tails nicely with this post of yours. You can read the article here:

    Fascinating! Thanks for the link!

I find it odd that a couple titles are on there twice (is KoDT just breaking even, or making beer money?). And of course, this only discusses print, not web comics. But as noted in the ComicsAlliance link, the rise of digital apps like ComiXology means that a space is being created for new types of story to take hold.

    Interesting articles thanks to both!
Unfortunatly the series I'm working on (Near Death) is Breaking Even / Beer Money depends on the single issue, so issue #11 will be the last issue for now

If you wouldn't mind answering, how much do the trade sales factor into it for you?

The trade selling figures (first trade because the second one will be out just after #11) didn't impact the trend

This is defo a really good read, thanks for sharing Anton and Cyberlord. I'm still very green to the comic industry so this stuff really helps, the figures are very interesting to look at especially the printing costs/profit.

Sorry to hear that Caimano, comic industry looks crazy rough.

I'm working on my first ish, and this is very interesting.

I'd love to see a list of sales channels people could try for indie comics.

I would love to know the stats if you are doing all the main jobs yourself, i.e Writer, Penciller, Inker, Colorist and,Letterer.
How about online without a colorist? With google ads and such.

Their are a lot of new variations on this so the old school way does seem much less profitable. I'm getting ready to start my on online comic so...some do the research I'm busy.

is that because of the time differential (revenue from trades arriving much later than the work completed), or are the trades being counted as a separate revenue stream from book sales which are used to fuel continued operations? Or did it just not do as well as projected/hoped for?
