    Pencilling Wet Hair

Soooooo....I'm finally getting off my ass a little.

Working on a final...I'm rusty when going bigger. It's 24 x 16. I usually blend alot but I'm trying to add value with line work...I personally think I need more work at it because this is looking more blended than I want it to.

Some of you are really good with hatching and cross hatching so any input would be appreciated.

Final will be graphite with Ink/black Watercolor (not sure)

I don't see anything wrong with your line work, you can blend and hatch as long as the end result looks good.

I hope you don't make the hair just black like in your sketch, it's looks odd compared to the technique you are using for the face, I would suggest using long pencil strokes to simulate hair strands as best you can then using an eraser to bring out highlights. But this is not a crit just an opinion.

    It's looking good anyways!

ahhh....but it's part of me plan.

I'm working on a series mixing graphite for flesh and ink for hair. I have to try it at least once.

    Thanks for the comments.

Textured rendering and solid flat color does not go well together. But keep experimenting. You could figure out how to make it work and let us know your tricks! I thing gray washes would look better.

I like The pencil work. She's calling to me! Very nice.

Grey washes for skin tone? I was thinking about doing variations in watercolor, but I am also trying to do mix media.

Ah. I thought this meant you were planning to stay black and white.

This is really nice. By blending, as opposed to cross-hatching, do you mean, like smudging? I think you've got a really nice balance here. The line-shading is fully evident here, so I'm not sure what distinction you're trying to make.

I have seen fully rendered complete pieces in large format with just straight line work like hatching...I'd like to do something like that...I just never have.

Think Moebius or Escher...not saying I can be that good...bu maybe in vein...

I have a visual goal...I'm just having issues with what I visualize in my head and what I execute.

No smudging .... blending with with different pencils and gradients .

I'm taking off for three days...so hopefully when I get back...I'll be in a better frame of mind.
