If you feel that the bamboo works for you, keep using it.

I'm really confused as to why this needed a new thread.

With the Cintiq, you are looking at your hand and what you are drawing/painting. For most other tablets, you have that third stage of disconnect.

You mentioned in your other thread that you're oing commercial work, right? If its good enough for what you're doing, no need to change.

BTW, did ya have a link to your stuff?

Personally, for just illustrations or pin-ups, cintiqs are overrated. I mean, your skill level is not going to jump all of a sudden because you swap your tablet for a cintiq.

But if you do digital animation. It's AWESOME.

What software is that Ugly Americans short being worked in? I don't recognize it... but I think I'd like to.

    -EDIT-

Never mind, I see it now... it's a Flash interface that's been set up properly for animaton. Quite cool.

Working with a tablet or a Cintiq won't really affect your skill level at all, only practice will do that. It's just another tool... but it is rapidly becoming THE tool for professional artists.

As I've said, I don't think you NEED a Cintiq, especially if you're painting... I know several professional painters who prefer the lap-tablet because they like the "invisible hands" effect that you get by not having your hands on the same surface as your image. It doesn't take a great deal of time to get used to it, and there's a learning curve in switching to digital drawing no matter what. Personally, I think it's better to go to a lap-tablet before the Cintiq, partly because it's cheaper and partly because it's like driving a stick-shift car, it's just one of those skills that may come in useful.
