Question - Do 'flatters' get credit?

So, a little while ago I ran into a guy on another forum that did a paint over of Loston's work. He tried to enter it into a contest against me... and I called foul. I'm all for paint overs as a legit way of colouring, but this guy was claiming it as his and that he had made significant changes.

I got to reading his site, and noticed this:

Comic Books I have helped to color flatten (partial list I cannot remember them all)

Army of Darkness + Marvel Zombies 1 to 5, Civil War Frontline 1 to 10 (sections dealing with SPEEDBALL), FILTH (early issues I hated these), ,Last Of the Mohicans (2007),Man In the Iron Mask (2007),Marvel Annhilation Prologue, Marvel Zombies 3,4,5, Marvel Zombies Dead Days, Silver Surfer Annihilation 1 to 4, several earlier Spiderman, X-Men related comics
And knowing this guy's penchant for exaggeration, I was curious if there was a way to verify who did flats on any given book.

So, do they give credit to 'flatters'?

edit: Also, anyone recognize these lines?

Flatters usually don't get any credit. At least I didn't when I dabbled in it.

That's interesting. So one could claim to have worked on ABC book... but there's no way to verify.

And that's a shame about no credit - that's a whole bunch of work.

I could be wrong and I have no way of checking until tomorrow afternoon, but I want to say I think Eric Larson credits/(ed) some flatters before in Savage Dragon.

Also, with so many people on line it shouldn't be hard to track down the publisher/edito of a book and get a reference. Maybe not from Marvel or DC though.

People who do flats don't usually get credit.

Independents of course can give credit to who they want as they don't have to follow tradition.

I'm pretty sure you could contact the colorist for any given book and they could tell you who flatted it.
