Sequentials Panel Breakout Manga studio EX4

    Hiya -
Does anyone know how to create a panel in Manga Studio ex4 where the character breaks out of the panel?
I've searched everywhere and for the life of me I can't figure it out. In MS3 you just put the drawing about the panel layer and erased the panel but the panel layers are all separate from the drawing layers.

    Any help would be appreciated!

To be honest, I've been using MS for years and I've yet to comprehend the benefit of panel layers. I don't seem to be able to bog down my six year old laptop no matter how many 1200 dpi layers I make*, so I've never needed the supposed speed benefits of working on one panel at a time/low rez previews/etc and I don't tend to draw so much off the edges that I need the masking. And I can't imagine wanting to work on one panel and not see the rest of the page, so I frankly find panel layers a confusing PITA to deal with.

I just set up a panel ruler layer, turn it light blue and reduce the opacity so I can use it as a guide without it being too distracting and then a make a "pencils" layer and start drawing just like it was a sheet of pre-ruled bristol.

So, I dunno if any of that is helpful, all I can say is that I LOVE to have stuff breaking panel borders and the way I work, I never encounter the problem you're having.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will give you a better answer!

(*Though I HAVE discovered that if you switch on the outline feature in a text box, the page will take FOREVER to load and God help you if you try to edit the outlined text in ANY way! Dunno what's up with that, but the text outline function is clearly possessed by Satan...)

I think the panel layer is erasable so you can erase the areas you want the art to show through, I saw it done on youtube but i cant find it again, I need to learn this too.

That's the problem I'm having - I used to do what you described in Manga studio 3 but in ex4 the panel ruler layers and drawing layers show up in two different sections altogether. I can't seem to erase any of the panel lines. It's really annoying!! I love breakout panels!

I'm not too fussed about masking layers, it's a novelty at best.

Hey thanks bps - If you do find it, please let me know. I'll have a search around for it. I can find loads on ex3 but nothing for ex4.

Okay I figured it out- while pressing buttons like a monkey - you can do like in Manga studio 3 but you have to first rasterize the panel layer, draw yr image on your drawing layer and fill the image on the drawing layer with white.
Very annoying but it does the job. : ) Thanks for the help and hope this helps anyone that is stuck like me.

Not sure if this is repeating what's already been said, but you can Scale the Panel Layer to be larger than the "panel" itself. So if you want to pop out of the frame, you make the panel frame smaller within the Panel Layer.

I'm not sure if there's some sort of "auto-frame" option being employed in EX4, but if so I don't know why anyone would use it. The "frame" is just a line, set up a new Layer and draw it using the Line Tool. It can be whatever size and shape you need it to be. If you find your Panel Layer is too small, Scale that bad boy up to as big as you need it to be (as big as the page, if you have to).

It's possible that I'm just using the program too simply/primitively, but I never run into these problems. I don't care for auto-functions that attempt to create the bubbles or the panels for me... I'm the artist, I can draw.
