So I grew up and was knee deep in comics during one of the most important, controversial periods in modern news print, primary color, spandex wearing, comicbookdom. Everyone bought six copies of every issue number one (anyone still sitting on 20 X-Men #1's?).
Then a villain arose. Someone so hated. So maligned. So not Jim Lee. Women became sterile. Children ate brussel sprouts. Men wept openly.
ROB LIEFELD
I worked in a comic shop a bit later and the question was always asked. You think you could do better? And for the record I was a big fan, collecting New Mutants and X-Force with Rob on em. This topic came to mind years ago, not as a negative Liefeld bash, but as an honest question. Could I do it?
So here is the challenge. Do better.
Take a page, panel, cover or pinup and redo it. It must be recognizable next to the original, but you can of course do what needs to be done to redraw it BETTER. If the costume choices Rob made are killing the original, redesign them your way (try not to use some other professional artists redesign, as that would not be pitting you against Rob but them).
Some examples of his fine body of work.
UPDATE:
We are redoing the page below. To inks only. Open to everyone. 20 June 2012 23:59:59 EST Deadline. Post your piece here when complete.
UPDATE #2
Scoring:A poll will be posted with all of our pieces and Rob Liefelds.
Anyone with the same or fewer votes than Rob Liefeld will take a loss.
The guy with the most votes gets a win.
Anyone with more votes than Rob, but not the most just gets a fun experience!
