    PROPER football: The soccer section...

All that's missing from PJ is a thread to discuss football. That is real football, not strapping layers of protective padding and a helmet, and rarely using your feet type football. Association Football (soccer, and that's the last time I'll refer to it as such!). Who's your team, transfer speculation, Euro Championships, Olympic Squads, Premier League etc. I can't surely be the only one in love with 'The Beautiful Game'?

Ahhhhh, I have at least one I can shoot the breeze with. Is the domestic scene in Canada large? I imagine its quite a difficult sell with Ice Hockey dominating?

Well......it's kinda based ON THE INTERNET really, isn't it.

    Anyway, back to real football.

When I was younger I supported Liverpool. Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish, Jan Molby - they were all great. NOW I don't actually give half a shit about football. The players are all lying, cheating, abusive, overpaid, spoilt arseholes - and the game has been ruined.

I stopped caring what happened to Liverpool about 10 years ago - but when they bought Luis Suarez my 'not caring' turned into a general dislike. I really, really hate that man. He is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the sport (overpaid, cheating, racist little twat). I now love seeing Liverpool lose

As for international football, yeah, I'll watch all of the Euro matches this year - but I don't expect us to do very well - simply because our new, boring, owl-faced manager has picked an entirely toothless set of forwards. Very disappointed with Carroll and Defoe being chosen - and I, personally, would have taken Crouch (mock him all you want, but the man causes problems and scores goals).

Ugh. Football. Even typing about it makes me feel sullied.

I'm going to go and wash my hands.......

@Fallen: For the Champions League Final, I shall be a Bayern fan too! You see, if Chelsea win, it means that English clubs lose the fourth-place berth for next years competition. My side, the mighty Tottenham Hotspur, finished 4th so will lose out on qualification. And that will not do!

@Dmario: Doesn't really matter where your from, your 'football' is still rubbish :-)

@Beastie: I feel the same way about John Terry, don't believe a word he says, smarmy bastard. The money side of the game has ruined the traditions of some major clubs, especially Liverpool. Hopefully Platini's financial restraints may pull some dignity back for some, but I can't help feel that the best (and greediest) will all piss off to the UAE where the money will be.

As for the Euro's, I agree with you on Crouch, but not on Defoe. There's nothing more frustrating watching England trying to pass and cross our way to goal for the simple reason that we're simply not good enough to dominate sides this way. Defoe shoots on sight, give him a sniff and he'll twat it, and I reckon that's what we need, certainly if Downing is meant to be creating opportunities. I also reckon that Hodgson had nothing to lose by naming the likes of Sturridge, Rodwell etc and taking a really young squad. Not for winning it, but putting them in a tournament environment ready for a proper World Cup assault. I'm done with Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Barry

    Downing is awful.

He's Gareth Bale - but with his talent level reduced to 12%

Luis Suarez is my country man and a heck of a futbol player. And he is not racist. That was overblown and it is quite common to call someone "negro" in spanish. It means black and is not meant as a racist remark.

I tend to watch when players from my country play. I try to catch liverpool for Suarez and coates, napoli for gargano and cavani, and when Forlan wasn't hurt all the time i would catch his matches.
