I'll answer your question with a question (because I'm an ass);
Are there things NOT getting done currently due to lack of commissioners? Are PMs not being answered? Is it a fight to get the rankings out in a timely manner?
This has been on my mind for a bit... and I thought maybe it'd be good to have an open discussion about it.
Right now, we have three commissioners - JC Immortal, blamito, and myself. We've had four at one time... maybe even five, including dfbovey, but right now we are at three.
Two questions for you pummelers...
1. Do you think we need more, or less?
2. How do you think commissioners should be chosen?

I'll follow Wassy's lead (wouldn't want him to be the only ass at the party).
What does a commissioner do exactly? What responsibilities come with the position? What does a person have to do to be a good commissioner?
Do commissioners really have a secret underground hideout? How long does it take to perform the commissioner secret hand shake? Does each commissioner have a spirit animal companion and how are those chosen? And last but not least, when commissioners are issued their suit of battle armor can they choose the color or do they just have to take what's left over in the armory?

Far too many questions. lol
The primary job of the Commissioner(s) is to organize the monthly rankings. This can often include tracking down MIAs and such. They are also responsible for creation and enforcement of the rules, as well as investigating any infractions. Oh, and they should also be active in promoting and participating in pummel activities and events.

Well, without knowing everything a commissioner has to deal with, I do think that it's only fair that each weight class have it's own commissioner. It seems like a decent amount of work to figure out rankings. You HAVE to be here the first and last few days of the month to keep things updated. Also, commissioners DO have to mediate, enforce rules and figure things out in the rare times that there's an issue. I can imagine things getting quite chaotic with the way PUMMEL's been growing lately... if someone's running 2 weight classes, that'd be a whole lot of work if a bunch of stuff came up at once!
I also think that a commissioner should be someone IN the weight class, though given how the ranking system works, we'd have to switch commissioners every 3-6 months and that would be silly. Plus a commissioner would have to bow out if they leveled up. So perhaps that's not a great idea.
As for choosing? Well, I have a bad feeling that anyone who'd want the role enough to say "oh oh, i'll do it!" would find themselves burnt out or disinterested after a few months. But if a person were selected by their peers instead of nominating themselves, they might take the role seriously. So, I think the existing commissioners should select someone and ask that person if it's something they'd be interested in. If the commissioners cannot decide, maybe then put it up to a public vote?

Seems to me that Commisioners ought to be chosen by the Commisioners. Voting for Commisioners would add a level of complexity to the selection process that doesn't really seem warranted. If the three commissioners need to add someone then they could post for the position and choose the most likely person to do the job well. That's my two cents and I'm sticking to them... er ....it.
Shoot just thought of another two cents to stick to. I can see where there could be a conflict in the ranks of Commisioners in the case of Pummel promotion. I can see the chance for someone becoming a commisioner just to help out with Pummel on Penciljack who either isn't interested in promotion or doesn't have the times to be putting in the extra mile or three. There is probably a place for a new commisioner being asked to be very up front with what they can and can't do for Pummel. The other Commisioners would have to be okay with that level of commitment.
Basically, what I always see happening in these kinds of loosely administered groups is that every commisioner feels like they are either doing more than everyone else or that they are being asked to do more than they signed up for. Getting expectations set down clearly at the beginning of the 'relationship' is critical to keeping peace in the ranks and to getting work done.
