If someone can't do a decent piece in roughly 30 days time, then you have to ask yourself, do you really deserve to win? Since topics change so frequently, I doubt very much anyone can really "cheat" every month, since it's hard enough to get people to show sometimes.

Keith, that's what I was thinking when I read that. At some point it becomes a matter of diminishing returns. What can you do in two months to a single piece of art that you couldn't do in a month? If you give me 1 month or 2 months to do something, I'm probably going to spend the same amount of time regardless.

But, I have been sneak attacked by old art before. Someone picking one of their better pieces out of their portfolio and then picking it as a subject and put a 48 hour deadline on it. But they were caught.

It seems to me that ultimately this just hurts the artist... If I spend two years on a piece, then throw it in the fight, it still means I can't do a piece in one month... and the next month I'm going to move up or down in ranking and I have a 50/50 chance of being at the whim of someone else (Since whether I decide the topic or not is a matter of being odd or even numbered in ranking ) who will then expose me as a fraud when they tell me the fight will be about fruit flies and I can't draw one inside 365 days... Thinking about it now, I think the system works just fine as it is. I haven't picked a topic yet, so I would have washed out already if I was pre-prepping my drawings

Seriously, if someone is trying to game the system, they are usually found out.

Creating multiple accounts... Found and banned.
Creating ringer topics... Found and outed.
Tracing and swiping... Found and outed

These competitors are usually pretty swift in finding dodgy work.
