A lot of people will probably still set the polls to run for 4 days out of habit. So it becomes a matter of logistics and moderating polls to close.
Sirandal mentioned this to me the other day... and I thought it makes a fair bit of sense.
Any downside to this?
-What would you guys think about having the monthly polls expire on the 29th? Sure, that the usually 25th-29th, 4-day rule... but what if people post early? Should it be possible to have a longer poll length (so as to give more chance for votes and feedback)?

Yeah... not really sure it'd be worth it. Just kind of thought it might be an encouragement for people to post polls early.

I dont think you should go changin something that that has been done since the beginning. plus if people dont get the drawing in by the 25th most likely they aint gonna get it in by the 29th
Pummel Record
Wins = 11
losses = 19
KO Win = 7

This is one reason not to do this.
Besides that, I don't have a problem with it, but it's kind of like if you would prefer to have more votes on your poll, just wait till the 23rd or 24th to post the poll. I don't really see and advantage to posting early. Plus, I think in general if you're going to win you'll do it if you get 20 votes in a poll or 50.
Well, I don't see an outright -problem- with this, however, I think the logic used to formulate the idea ought to be called into question.
See, it's been my observation that the majority of votes for a piece come in the first 48 hours that a poll is up, and the way those votes lean usually indicates who the winner will be. Having an extra day or two (or five) might, in a few very rare cases, prevent a tie or cause the votes to tip the other way. However, changing the way we've done things for years just to satisfy a slim minority of cases might not sit too well (people do loathe thinking, after all!).
However, one can also make the case that people are used to voting at certain times, and that if a poll goes up too early, many people might not even SEE it, and thus not get a chance to vote. This would be unfair to both the participants AND the viewing public. I've noticed that mid-month street fights tend to draw in less voters than the monthly matches, so there is definitely some evidence to support this.
Also, unless EVERY match in a weight-class gets done early, the commissioner won't be able to figure out the ranks before the 29th anyway, so why NOT give the early birds more time?
I had another thought: If we do this, why not go the opposite way, as well? If both participants to a match are late, why not make their poll last only 2 or 3 days? Or do we already do that if both fighters PM their commissioner? I'm not advocating this, just taking the situation to the opposite extreme, because I'm sure that someone eventually would, anyway.

Interesting but i think Emperor hit all the key points for both sides of the argument but then we always have to ask other other competitor is they are alright with a shortened poll cause as was mentioned most of the voters come in on the first 2 days so if someone is early with a poll or late then they miss possibly keys votes....as we have seen alot more lately polls coming down to a few votes...in the end i think the standards we set work very well....so unless this ship starts to sink theres no real need to rock the boat!![]()
Hey I want to mention that I only threw that idea out there because Juggertha STARTED the topic by saying "I'm thinking about posting my poll early but I'm worried about people not seeing it (or whatevah)."
I don't want to get branded as a boat-rocker or revolutionary! (at least not when it's not necessarily deserved!)![]()
