I recently picked up and was very pleased with On The Other Hand, a book of collected fiction, written and edited by left-handed people.

I worked on Womanthology, so am obviously too biased to offer an opinion on whether you should buy it, heh, but wanted to respond on these questions:

The cover design is by Renae De Liz, who founded the project, and the image incorporates art from many of the internal contributors. Renae drew the girl and the outline; her cape's a collage of all of our work. Renae does indeed also have a story inside ("Lady Powerpunch!").

Our publisher was IDW: they agreed to publish the book without taking a profit cut, so we could donate all sales proceeds to charity (Global Giving). That meant we needed to use Kickstarter to cover IDW's printing costs (since they're not making a dime on their involvement in the project) - the thing's a socking great hardcover over 300 pages long, and IDW couldn't put it out for free.

    *shrug* I don't get it ?

Also, one of my favorite works of poetry is from someone who suffers from Restless Leg Syndrome.

Late at night, I awake and your framed picture I notice on the night table

In the distance, a train whistle tweets into the midnight air

My sheets askew, I notice the old familiar "shaking" , but this time it's not my leg

It is my heart that is shaking for my longing of you -

I liked the novelty of it, if you can even go that far to call it a novelty. Seeing that there are that many female creators out there was a real eye opener for me.

I found another former Penciljacker in the book last night.

What's the difference, though. The same could be said about any group, race or gender, putting out an anthology. Black creators? Well, what for? Kyle Baker's been working for years. Asian creators? Jim Lee's been the hottest thing on the planet for decades.

My point, there doesn't have to be a point. Just enjoy an anthology created by all women.
My post was so good you had to reply twice?

I see you couldn't name the under-represented area of sports car driving comic artists.

Doing a book of a segment or group of society isn't the issue. Go ahead an do that.

The thing is, in trying to quickly research the book, I saw more about "How wonderful it is, a book with all female creators" and nothing about what's in the book. Not everyone is sold on novelty. Some of us would appreciate knowing there's actually something worth buying/looking at in that book.

I'm with weirdozhead in that a 'theme' anthology is what I read. I have the 3 Batman Black and White Books, greatest stories ever told for various DC Comics, 24 hr comics anthologies, Solo etc. Why? because those are quality art/stories. Doing it the other way round, I could be buying shit. So I'd rather know a rough idea of what's on offer. All I know is, its made by women. big whoop. I hear manga is made by Asians. there's still a lot of shit manga.

PS, you assumed when I said Asian, I meant East Asian. I actually meant South Asian (like Indian) and I honestly don't know anyone in comics who's Indian.

There are previews of stories and a full list of creators involved in it and reviews. Shouldn't that be enough? And the book HAS a theme, a couple in fact. It's right there in the title, Womanthology: HEROIC. Kind of tells you what kind of stories are going to be in it.

Back on topic, I may pick it up eventually. Lots of art I like in there but not enough that I got to get it right now.
