    3rd attempt

Assuming that includes 70s versions of existing characters as opposed to defunct characters from the 70s? ( Luke Cage's tiara beckons )

I also could only really think of Luke Cage and Black Lightning of the Big 2's blaxploitation phase...

    So did a wee search - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_...the_Bronze_Age

Although I had a idea about a comic about the death of a "Jack Kirby"-like character, that features a lot of (60's and) 70's faces, but from both companies, so no go...

Pretty stoked about this one. Will think of something later.

If the character is still prominent today that's fine, but it should still be a character that premiered or was significantly reinvented during that time and your story should reflect the 70's incarnation.

quick question: does the story have to be set in the 70's?

    Here's my entry.

Don’t hesitate, criticisms and comments welcomed. I’ll gladly return the favor!

    A SUMMER NIGHT HIT
    (5 Pages)

    PAGE ONE

    PANEL 1
It’s a clear night in New York City; we see a high angle view of a roof top lamp post with a surveillance camera and a stationed BODYGUARD. The bodyguard wears a suit. The lamp and camera burst into a million pieces as they are hit by metal throwing spikes. Simultaneously, a ballistic knife strikes the bodyguard in the neck.

    SFX: (Lamp and camera) CRSSSHHH

    SFX: (Ballistic knife) THUNK

    BODY GUARD:
    AAACK!

    PANEL 2
Close on a MAN shadowed in the roof top darkness. He lights a cigar; the glow from the lit match illuminates only the bottom of his face.

    CAPTION:
Nothing like suffering through a summer night.

    PANEL 3
Close zoom on the MAN’s hand as he flicks the match.

    PANEL 4
Close zoom on a cockroach by our MAN’s feet; it’s impaled by the smoldering match.

    MAN:
    Heh, heh, heh.

    CAPTION: God, I’m good.

    PANEL 5
In the foreground facing us, the MAN opens the rooftop access door; he and the access way are in silhouette, save for the glow of the cigar. In the background is the illuminated New York City skyline.

    PAGE TWO

    PANEL 1
This is an over the shoulder shot. The MAN looks down an empty corridor, past office cubes, to an executive office. It’s after hours; the office is dark apart from some overnight lights. Light streams out from underneath the executive office door.

    PANEL 2
A medium close up on the startled EXECUTIVE as he stands up from behind his desk.

    EXECUTIVE:
    What are you doing here!?

    PANEL 3
This is a reveal of BULLSEYE. Facing the reader, he nonchalantly strides towards the EXECUTIVE with a menacing smile and cigar in mouth.

    BULLSEYE:
Toss your wallet on the desk, sit right back down there, and just…relax. You know why I’m here and what I want—tell me where it is.

    EXECUTIVE:
    I don’t know what you’re talking about!

    PANEL 4
Medium close up on both BULLSEYE and the EXECUTIVE. BULLSEYE violently grabs the EXECUTIVE by his hair and pulls him close over the desk. With his cigar in the other hand he holds it threateningly close to the EXECUTIVE’s eye.

    BULLSEYE:
Tell me where it is or decide which side of your face would look better with an eye patch.

    EXECUTIVE:
    P-please, I-I don’t…

    PANEL 5
Small panel extreme close up on the EXECUTIVE’s bloodshot eyes. He’s looking straight forward towards BULLSEYE.

    EXECUTIVE:
    …know where…

    PANEL 6
This is identical to PANEL 5, an extreme close up on the EXECUTIVE’s bloodshot eyes. He now glances to the side at something off panel.

    EXECUTIVE:
    …it is.

    PAGE THREE

    PANEL 1
In the foreground, BULLSEYE still clutches the EXECUTIVE by his hair over the desk. He follows the EXECUTIVE’s glance to the side and notices a sculpted bust on a pedestal in the background.

    BULLSEYE:
    Bingo.

    PANEL 2
BULLSEYE puts his cigar out in the middle of the EXECUTIVE’s forehead.

    SFX: SSSHHHIIIZZZZZ

    EXECUTIVE:
    AAAAHHHH!

    PANEL 3
BULLSEYE reclines in the guest chair with his feet up on the EXECUTIVE’s desk. He’s sifting through the EXECUTIVE’s wallet. The EXECUTIVE is standing; the center of his forehead has a circular burn that emanates slight wisps of smoke. The EXECUTIVE dumps a large amount of bound cash onto his desk. Two bodyguards bust into the office off panel.

    BULLSEYE:
This your family? Nice... it’s a damn shame though.

    EXECUTIVE:
    No! What’s he paying you!?

    BULLSEYE:
    My usual.

    EXECUTIVE:
Here…here’s double. You’ll come and work for me.

    BULLSEYE:
Gee, that sure is a whole lot of money. But see I’ve turned a new leaf, professionally speaking. When I’m paid…I see the job through.

    SFX: CRASH

    BODYGUARD 1 (O.P.):
    Don’t move…

    PANEL 4
BULLSEYE swirls out of his chair facing the reader. He throws a metal spike at the guards (towards the reader) with one hand and blasts the executive in the head with a gun in his other hand.

    PANEL 5
Close up on the two bodyguards. The spike slams through the first bodyguard’s mouth, out the back of his neck, and strikes the second body guard in the neck.

    BODYGUARD 1: Hey—HEERGGGK!

    SFX: (Second bodyguard) THUNK

    BODYGUARD 2:
    AAACK!

    PANEL 6
Close up on the EXECUTIVE slumped back in his chair. The cigar burn is still smoldering, but now as a bullet wound.

    PAGE FOUR

    PANEL 1
A circular panel focuses on a small USB jump drive in the CLIENT’s hand.

    CLIENT:
Did you have difficultly acquiring this?

    BULLSEYE:
    No.

    CLIENT:
    Hah! Fantastic.

    PANEL 2
BULLSEYE reclines in a guest chair with his feet up on the CLIENT’s ornate desk as he lights a cigar. The CLIENT is seated behind his desk.

    CLIENT:
I assume he’s taken care of?

    BULLSEYE:
Yes sir. I also took care of his wife and kid as requested. His annoying-as-hell dog was on-the-house.

    CLIENT:
It’s a horrible proposition to kill a man’s family. Mind you it’s nothing personal, I just need certain assurances.

    PANEL 3

A circular panel with a zoom focuses on a framed picture of CLIENT’s family. It rests at the edge of the desk. We see the CLIENT, his wife, and two teenage boys.

    PANEL 4
BULLSEYE is sitting forward in his chair; he has the framed picture of his CLIENT’s family in his hand. The Client is disturbed.

    BULLSEYE:
You know an interesting thing happened when I was taking care of our friend. He offered me double to take care of you.

    CLIENT:
Ha! Actions of desperate man, it’s pathetic really.

    BULLSEYE:
This your lovely family? Nice...it’s a damn shame though.

    PANEL 5
Medium close up on both BULLSEYE and the CLIENT. BULLSEYE, with a smile, violently grabs the CLIENT and pulls him close over the desk. BULLSEYE puts his cigar out in the middle of the CLIENT’s forehead.

    SFX: SSSHHHIIIZZZZZ

    CLIENT:
    NOOOO AAAAHH!

    BULLSEYE:
See I’ve turned a new leaf, professionally speaking. When I’m paid…I see the job through.

    PAGE FIVE

    PANEL 1
In the foreground, is a living room with the CLIENT’s wife and two teenage sons enjoying an evening together. In the background is a large bay window. It’s night; nothing can be seen in the darkness outside.

    PANEL 2
Zoom closer to the bay window and the darkness outside. The family is still in view.

    PANEL 3
Zoom closer to the bay window. We see BULLSEYE outside through the window. He lights a cigar; the glow of the lit match partially illuminates his face and frame.

    CAPTION:
Nothing like suffering through a summer night.

If anyone is having trouble finding a character I know Sabertooth and Mystique both had their first appearances in the 70's, 77 and 78 respectively. Hope that helps.
