It's astonishing that the vote is so close.
Hmmm, I've been trying to figure out how to vote on this one for a day or so now and still feel a little stuck.
I think Nick's illustration is really clean and tight, the perspective looks great and my only tiny nitpick might be that the figures look a little stiff.
JC's has some great action and I like the "kitchen sink" background even if it doesn't totally work for me!
This is a tough one!

Money can't buy you happiness, but it will pay for the search.
There is so much wrong that I see in your piece, JC, anatomically(Dhalsim) and proportionally(the background characters), as well as perspective issues(the entire background), that I'm stunned the vote is so close. Because all I had to see in Nick's piece was just the rendering on that background tree and I was like, "Damn that's some good drawing."
In fact, though his characters are stiff, I would say just for rendering alone, Nick should have more votes.
Sorry, JC, but you did ask. So let me ask you. Do you look at your piece and Nick's piece and think, "Yeah, I killed this. I've got this." Or do you think, "Man, his piece is going to destroy mine."

Pop's points are all valid, and I can honestly say that I ultimately considered those same things, but on the other hand, it's very easy for me to see why JC has gotten as many votes as he has. While certainly there are issues, his piece definitely makes an impact just by its sheer energy. If Nick had gotten the same kind of energy in his, then yeah of course it would have been completely one sided.
I can't vote yet, but I'd like to address the "Why is it so close?" argument if I may...
To me these are both extremely good pieces. It's really REALLY hard to discern the difference in skill level for someone like me (Who is certainly below this level of skill).
Since the poll is open to folks like me (I just haven't hit "50" yet), then I could certainly see choosing JC's picture over Electronicks, I like the elevator, the humor on JC's has a certain something to it that might have won the vote (This is not to say that Electronicks' has NO humor, just that JC's has DIFFERENT humor, of course). JC's is also a visually more complex piece, with much more going on in the background, which may also lead to someone choosing that piece.
I'm discovering that the polls seem pretty good at ultimately rendering the correct assessment here. If my piece were involved, I'd have a couple of votes, with just a little teeny showing in this fight and these two would STILL be neck and neck, which would accurately reflect two really good artists going at it and one less skilled artist in the mix. As it is, it's just two really good artists, so naturally it's close, with a lead toward the better piece.
Aabh, why don't you just go to the Break Room and respond to a few topics there. You'll be at 50 posts by the end of the day and then...happy voting!!
Anyway, I could buy the whole "just by it's sheer energy" thing if this were two lightweights and we were judging two artists at the same artistic level. But these are Light-Heavyweights. This is basically just a few steps from Heavyweight. And I'm sorry, but when I see the #2 ranked LHW going head-to-head with the #6 ranked LHW, issues like the ones that have been pointed out really should not be there. That's just my opinion, of course.

True... excellent suggestion! Thank you.
I think I may have misrepresented my point, I apologize![]()
For YOU it's obvious what the problems are, these are your peers. For the MWs and the LWs it may not be... since the MW's and the LWs can vote equally here but they may not realize or comprehend yet the problems you are pointing out, they could be voting for any reason... That's my theory, anyway![]()
Nick has posted his piece in the Finished Work section and gotten some more feedback. Perhaps JC could do the same?
Feedback is great here, and as far as I'm reading, it seems pretty spot on, but as some have mentioned, it might be hard to visualize. I'd love to do a draw over to show some of the issues, but am quite hesitant to do that in a poll thread. I think that sort of critique would be better in another section.
