Awesome work everyone. It's cool to see so many takes on a couple of my favorite characters. Dan3000 got my vote but it was a close one.

Went with Dan3k, best anatomy of the group, nice shading, and by far the most accomplished background. If Immigrant's was a bit more polished, he would have been my first choice, great energy and really fun.
it’s as if he figured that sheer repetition would wear them down, forcing them to submit to his strange, incompetent genius.

WHEW! Let's look at the contenders...

Dan 3000: Decent figure work and solid shading. You could stand to use more tone variance (a darker pencil, maybe), but I'm not holding that against you here. The poses seem a touch awkward, but it's nothing awful. The Sentinel is pretty well-rendered, too. Still, I'm forced to wonder why Wolverine and Psylocke are facing AWAY from their enemy, and not to mention why they don't seem to care that they're standing right on top of a palm blaster. They're a half a second away from getting vaporized, and all they care to do is pose and try to look badass? I obviously don't speak for everyone, but these odd conceptual questions tend to affect my voting. Just something to keep in mind for future battles =)

Aahb: Cool composition, I really like the use just Red and Black. I wonder if maybe it would have been even more effective if instead of a pink sky, you used a red line fade? Maybe not, just throwing that out there. Anyway, not digging the faces too much, but I like how the characters came out otherwise. In general, I'm usually not a fan of the whole "Scarce background with scattered destroyed rubble" thing, but I have to admit it seems kind of appropriate here. Still, it looks a bit sloppy and it just might cost you a few votes, we'll see.

Steele: And of course, you're not one to talk about backgrounds. I thought you said you were going to start working on them?! The anatomy on those ninjas ranges from questionable to awful, and where the hell did Wolverine's other leg go?! This picture is woefully incomplete and hopefully you'll learn to stop procrastinating...

Immigrant: Speaking in terms of anatomy and perspective and composition, you obviously still need some work. BUT, I'll tell you why I voted for you anyway. Basically, the other pictures here, while artistically better, don't do much for me. Your picture makes me SMILE. The look on Wolverine and Psylocke's faces are priceless!

@Emperorsteele, I like that you C&C your own work. As for my peice, this was actually the second attempt, I'll post the original in the challenge thread so you can check it out. I was trying to play it safe since I wasn't happy with my previous one.

Thanks to eveyone for voting and to everyone who participated, there was a great turnout

(MAN I hate the Captcha! This was the THIRD attempt at posting this... I am so bad at reading them... *sigh*)

    This is a fascinating turnout!

I can't vote, but if I could I would have voted for Dan's piece as well!

Thank you for the assessment, Steele... for a moment there I totally fell for it and thought "Wow, man... go easy on the guy!" then I realized it was you doing a self critique! Then it was pure awesome!

I'm still having a problem with a self critique of my piece (Which is why I'm here! ) I think I'll take the piece and put it in a lab and see if I can't bring it up to speed.

Thank you for this, guys! It was a good fight!

Nice job to all the competitors in this matchup:
@Dan3000: great job, good anatomy, interesting storytelling. You have really upped your game and I believe you will be in the ranks of the MW's or LHW's pretty soon if you keep doing work like this!
@Aahb: Nice use of heavy blacks to give a sense of mass to your figures, I like the "X" logo you included in red as part of the background.
@Emperor: Nice job on the crazy action scene. I think a background would have tied it together a little more.
@Immigrant: Interesting stuff. Between your Batman on a Horse last month and this one, I am finding myself liking the amount of fun you are injecting into each piece. Keep working on it, I think you're headed somewhere !

On a side note, I see Dan participating over in the Weekly Sketch Group most weeks and putting in the time and effort it takes to improve his craft. Anybody is welcome to participate in the weekly sketch group! The topics might not be ones you love, but it will help you keep your pencils and pens busy and we all need practice !

thanks for the comment Scmarooney: true I love having fun getting out there and jus doing a piece for love I don't like playing safe I jus go out there an "rumble" draw , (I try not to do stale boring pieces that i've done in the past ) an in honesty it drives me to draw regardless of the challenge.

I gave it to Ahab. The faces could use a little work but I felt the composition was strikingly stronger than the other entries.
