PSFT - NYP vs PEP - ROUND 4 - Nordic Witch Baba Yaga

Okay, it seems that me and Pep go against each other every month now, hope you all enjoy our battles, I know I sure do. This month's topic was the Scandanavian Witch of Lore, Baba Yaga, Hideous to look upon and devourer of children everywhere (reminds me of my mother in law).....Pep chose the more traditional look of the character and I chose to go with a more comical take focusing on the HIDEOUS part and very heavily inspired by the great Basil Wolverton (look him up)....Enjoy!!!

It's definitely turned into a fun rivalry to watch. This one is difficult to vote on because they are both high quality and both very different.

Pep, I need that wallpaper style Stat.

Excellent piece NYP, perfectly captures the ratfink wolverton era comic vibe.

Went with Pep, I'm a sucker for the traditional children's book feel. Trina Hyman made me want to become an artist years before I bought my first comic.

it’s as if he figured that sheer repetition would wear them down, forcing them to submit to his strange, incompetent genius.

Argh. Both are good. NYP's is really sexy - but Pep's has a really lovely Arthur Rackham feel to it.

    Think I'm going with Pep......

Nice twist, NYP - definitely got a smile out of me. Pep I like your scene a lot, especially the Baba Yaga detail - you should paint more!

Thanks for the kind comments. Since two artist names were brought up that I hadn't heard of before I'm sharing my source of inspiration: Ivan Bilibin. That's the stuff I would like to aspire to. I love it.
