Thread: "Before Watchmen" DC Entertainment announces Watchmen Prequels

I don't really care about the whole hooplah surrounding Moore's wishes and the fact these got made. I mean if I were really concerned about the fact they were exploiting Moore's creations then I shouldn't have watched the movie either. Besides, wasn't the initial idea to use some existing Charlton comics characters that DC had aquired and change them to fit into Moore's story? How must the the creators of those characters have felt if they went ahead with that? I always felt it was strange that Moore has such a problem with the DC owning his characters and being able to do anything they want with it, when the initial idea was to do exactly the same thing with other people's creations...

I understand his objections come from the fact that DC basically swindled him out of ownership rights. But I also read they tried to give him the rights back if he agreed to do so prequel/sequel projects, but that he didnt want anything to do with that. He basically doesn't want Watchmen back anymore. So I don't really see the point in making a fuss about DC going ahead with some prequels without him.

At least these prequels have nice art and I like anything Darwyn Cooke does. So I'm not going to feel bad about the fact these artists took the job, or the idea that I might buy these.

    Hm, I never heard that.
My question is: was that only the "initial idea" or is that what they actually did?
If the answer is the latter then Moore would not seem to actually have a leg to stand on as you point out.

I can still understand his refusal.
Basically that sounds like they were going to give him back what was rightfully his... IF he agreed to work with them again.

Yeah, but the Watchmen are much, much more different than the original Charlton characters that inspired them.

Had DC not forced Moore to create new characters and just used the originals, none of this would have mattered.
